looking for mobo+CPU combo

i need some hardware for my newest box, its just an mp3 server so it doesnt need to be too powerful. anybody know where i can find some good deals on a mobo+CPU combo? ive been looking on pricewatch and see some xp 2400ish for 100ish... Is anything better then pricewatch?

If it is just for an MP3 box Frys usually has good deals on combos. I saw 2500 combos for 100 a few months ago, howeve that would be with crappy ECS mobos but I don't think you are planning to do much with it?

nope, not much at all, just have one big HD on it for my mp3's and possibly a couple of mp3 mixing programs along with a audigy2 sound card... ive been out of the mobo buying for a couple years now, is there any brands i should watch out for?

EDIT: hey not bad, online at frys they advertise for 75$ sempron 2400+ with kt600 motherboard... hmm not bad at all =)

Well the combo deals they have will have crappy ECS motherboards (or the like) but if you don't plan on doing any OCing or for your stated needs

If you want a *good* motherboard with a lot of options but cheap I would go with the Shuttle an35n ultra and pick up a sempron seperately. That will probably bring you a bit over 100 but it would be a great system.

Search Newegg for - Biostar combo - that will get you a few choices for what you need.

I have used quite a few of the Sempron 2200+ combos for $88 and I recommend them for what your doing. I have only had them in service for a couple months but they were completely stable when I left them folding 24/7 for a week straight without restarts. Everything onboard so it should be cheap enough to build a rig around.

i looked at those biostars and i went to Fry's yesterday... fry's cheapest combo was an ECS board and athlon 2200 for 119$... OUCH! i ordered at outpost.com last night when i got home.
