| For all you pimps that print in mass quantities I have found a good deal on laser printers at OfficeMax. Konica Minolta PagePro 1350w for $99 - there is a rebate but its an INSTANT rebate. I scoped it out - nice quality printout. 1200 x 1200 dpi and 8 mb memory. Starts up fairly quick and is speedy to boot. Consumables are a bit pricey though. 3000 page yield toner runs about $70ish and 6000 page yield runs about $115.........not the cheapest. It does include a 1500 page yield toner cartridge in the printer, cheap bastards could have stuck a REAL cartridge in there. I hate companies that send you half full consumable with the printer, but I suppose its all about the bottom line at the register. Brother HL-440 for $149 - there is a $30 mail-in rebate making it $119 after rebate. This is the one I bought, I hate mail-in rebates but you will see why this is a better deal shortly. 1200 x 600 dpi but it only has 2 mb memory.....oh well. It has a 250 sheet capacity paper tray compared to the 150 sheet capacity of the Konica above, thats nice. It also starts up fairly quickly and print quality is excellent. Consumables are where this printer shines. 3000 page yield toner is $52 and 6000 page yield toner is $70. These prices are from OfficeMax so you could probably do better online. They also send you a REAL 3000 page yield toner cartridge in the printer - twice the output on the Konica right out of the box. Run down of machines Cost after printing 12000 pages (not taking into account original cartridge) Konica...machine $100 + 2 qty 6000 yield toner cartridges at $115 each= $330 Brother...machine $120 or $150 if you dont go rebate + 2 qty 6000 yield toner cartridges at $70 each = $260 if you go rebate or $290 if you dont The Brother is the better buy HANDS DOWN........that only after 12K pages, the gap will widen greatly as you print more. You can see the inital cost is not always the real issue, check price of consumables before you buy........... | ||

| Still using my trusty 10yr. old HP LaserJet 4L. Cartridges run me $35 each and I replace them four times a year tops. Best damn printer I've ever had. Fook color, I'll take efficent B&W any day. I also have a Photosmart 1115, I hate the cartridge cost and lifespan so much that I don't use it. | ||

Man, all I can say, is wait till college. Nice Deal on the printer though, sounds nice. As for the cartidges, I figure for that level of printing, it's about 70 every 6 months, or about 40 every 2-3. ![]() | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
