If you're looking to buy the $66 Seagate 120Gb SATA Drive

READ THIS!!!!

I bought one of those Seagate SATA 120Gb drives 2 months ago for $145 at Best Buy. As soon as I came home and installed it I noticed something...LOUD CLICKING! It clicked like crazy and I still have it in my main computer. It still clicks everytime while accessing something, and is louder than all 9 fans in my case. I also used Seatools to troubleshoot, and it didn't help at all, I also defragmented...still nothing.

I looked up on Google "Seagate SATA 120Gb Clicking" and read that many others have experienced this problem. Some others have had the drive die on them within 5 months.

I've always bought Seagate for their silence and dependability and definately wasn't happy with this 120Gb SATA drive.

When I went into Best Buy this month and looked at the same drive I purchased, I wondered why did it go on sale so fast??? My ex answered, must've been that clicking like you said, maybe they know about it and are trying to get rid of them.

It has only been a problem with the 120Gb SATA so far and I haven't read into the others. I am just letting everyone know.

W00t, just got back from FRY"S so I din't buy any HDD"s from my post , however I bought 2 160 gig SATA Western Digitals for $69.00 after 30 dolla MIR( each $69 bux EACH) and a 36 gig 10,000 RPM Raptor for $ 69,00 bones also , I think I scored ?????

for the dell ones, if you're going to order now, they might be backordered. last time when i ordered them, they went on backorder almost immediately when the sale started. they get new shipments pretty fast though so you'll only have to wait an extra week.

hey jess, were they still under warranty? i know the seagate hds i bought have 5 year warranties on them.

I doubt it can be a prob with all of them (all 120gb seagates) but if it is and the replacements they send you do it too, just ask if you can use them as a trade-in... or you can just try and trade the ones you have for bigger ones and pay the little extra for more space *shrug*

Off topic but does anyone know how to image a drive? Cause I want my OS and all my programs/games on the fast drive and move all my music to the slower one...

And about the image - http://www.seagate.com/support/disc/...s/discwiz.html has a DiscWizard Starter Edition - bootable diskette that I'm pretty sure I used to copy a whole hard drive onto another... which is what you're looking for right ? takes 2 floppys and a little time, but should do the trick

Just got my Seagate "200"GB HD....

install it and its really 186GB WTF??? I go to properties and look at the size 186GB, or 200,047,001,600 bytes...

Why do i care how many bytes there is?

Cause they ripped me off! 200,047,001,600 bytes is equal to 186GB HOW? Good question...

1KB = 1024 bytes
1MB =1024 KB
1GB = 1024 MB

so you take 200,047,001,600 bytes divided by 1024
you get 195,358,400 KB you take that and divde it by 1024
you get 190,779.6875 MB finally you divide that by 1024 and walaa
you get a whopping 186.30828857421875 GB

A 14GB ERROR!!!


bottom line... I'm pissed off...

The hard drive companies measure a Gigabyte as 1 billion bytes, rather than the 1,073,741,824 bytes that a gigabyte truly measures. It happens to everyone, get over it.
