2) how they operate is they partner with all these sites (AOL, columbia house, stamps.com, ancestry.com, credit cards, etc) and with each referral, these sites pay freeipods.com a certain amount of commission. it doesn't matter to freeipods.com if you cancel the service right away, since they get paid per referral and not per successful referral.
3) i've HEARD from people who have supposedly run similar "free" sites that AOL and similar companies pay up to $100 or $150 per referral, which would definitely bring in a profit for freeipods.com, since each person earning a free ipod brings in a total of six referrals and ipods cost around $250.
4) if you think about it, AOL and those companies are really making a smart investment because it's an easy way to expose potential customers to their service. i did the ancestry.com thing, and i can just IMAGINE people signing up with the intention to cancel and keeping it just cuz it's so cool. so you might think you're beating the system.. but you're helping that company's statistics in that out of every bunch of referrals, perhaps one real subscribing (paying) customer will stick with them and, therefore, make them money.
5) freeipods.com is legit, because after they confirmed my five referrals (BE SURE not to make multiple accounts because they verify EACH REFERRAL and your own account to make sure no one's done duplicate accounts. if they find any fraud, they freeze your account and there is no way to unfreeze it... or take another stab at it... because they will cross-check.) they placed a REAL order with apple.com with a visa card that was not mine. it took 4 weeks to ship from apple.com (as freeipods.com promised, 4-6 weeks) and only took that long because mini ipods are on backorder. it was listed on apple.com to be shipped on 7/30 but actually arrived yesterday, 7/26 via FedEx. | | | | | |
So the basic idea is sign up at freeipods, fil in all the forms. Find an offer, we'll call ours AOL, sign up at aol, they'll have some first month free or w/e ( but it is a good idea to check if they try to slip in any aditional charging) once freeipods.com verifies you''ve signed up at AOL, close the aol account. Then you just need to get 5 other people to sign up and "complete" an offer using your referral link and you've got your ipod.
I just thought I'd post this for any pimps or pimpettes who would like an ipod but aren't in a huge hurry to get one and wouldn't mind savin a bit of money. There are offers for dvd and cd sites, and those are actually useful things, so for getting some cds and havin ur friends get cds and dvds seems like a pretty good idea.
