Although the regular price for that card is only $160 anyway.

And mine just arrived DOA, which completely eliminates the usage of my newly built computer

Is this card better than the 1GB Radeon HD 3870 I just bought?

Yours has more memory and a faster core clock but that evga has a much faster meory clock. Yours also has newer ram interface.

Thanks Matvey... that was.... well, useless information with no point or conclusion. The 9800GTX is the newer card and is far superior in terms of performance against a single HD 3870, so yes TGS, it is better.

You know hwbot.org has a very useful compare feature, allowing you to compare CPUs and videocards, look what I made:

I wish there was better cards in the £60-80 range in the UK... Then maybe I'd be able to afford a decent card. My HD2900GT wasn't too bad for £46 when I got it, alot better than my now sadly dead 7900GS. It did annoy me when OcUK started to sell HD3850's for about £65 two weeks after I got my card.

PS I really shouldn't look at these American deal threads, they always make me annoyed.
PPS A 9800GTX is better than a HD3870

I dunno man, this is going damn cheap now, and although the frame buffer is a bit small, the card is still rather quick.

Or one of these, if you fancy ATi....

That is a great tool! +Rep

It does look like my Radeon HD 3870 1GB is better than my 8800GTS 640MB, but if it's not broke why fix it?

Are those HD4670 better than my HD2900GT? I haven't been keeping up really so I've no idea how things are running! I'm sure you can help Reflux (I must sound lazy!)...

PS Are HD4670's just HD3870's with 128-Bit memory?

Hmmm, yeah, the 4670 looks about on par with your 2900GT I would guess. They're a little slower than the 3870s, especially at higher res.

AnandTech: AMD Radeon HD 4670: Ruling from Top to Bottom

If you need a card now, I'd probably go for the 256mb 8800GT, although the small amount of RAM might be a problem depending on your resolution.

Thanks for the info... I reckon I'll wait until Christmas time to upgrade and try and get a HD4850. Thats probably the next major step up for me!
