| One gets the impression they're having a hard time unloading these puppies. ![]() $10 after rebate? $5? $2? Free? I finally broke down and got one... sadly, it looks like it may not be brilliant fanless, because I'd sort of dream of running a high-end 939 chip fanless. :runs off to wrangle two 120mm fans: [edit] It looks like unless I want to retrieve some Delta AFB1212VHEs from retirement, I only have one to work with. Anyone tried this sink with one fan? Last edited by Hak Foo; 04-October-07 at 01:21 AM.. | ||

I would say one fan right over the core would be ok. Im running mine with a 90cfm fan and a 50 cfm fan and i run a Q6600 at 3.0ghz around 40 degrees with an ambient of 30... they really arent that great, but for free, you cant complain.

I was sort of hoping for fanless, but *meh*... I suppose, worst case, I can save it for whatever I use next. I'm just hoping to outclass an AC Freezer 64 Pro (one quiet 92mm fan)

| Free? Am I just really bad at math, because it seems to me like, after rebate, they're paying YOU to buy it. ClubIT Price: $39.99 - Instant Rebate of $13.00: $26.99 - $25 Mail In rebate: $1.99 - $7 ClubIT MailIn Rebate: -$6.99 Please, correct my math skills if they suck. Still, I'll be putting one of these babies on my debit card as soon as my paycheck hits the bank this weekend | ||

No no - they're just including part of the shipping too. 1.99 - 7.00 = 5.01 Shipping = -7.00 So really you're getting it to your doorstep for 1.99. ![]()

| Mine showed up today, at eight-freaking-fifty in the morning. Newegg packages never seem to be delivered on Saturdays. I'm running OCCT stress-test right now to record a "baseline" to compare against the new sink, but first I need to collect some fans for it, and replace the dead 120mm in another box. | ||

| I must have something wrong with mine-- it seems to make exceptionally poor contact with my CPU. Compare the paste impressions the Gemini II and my old Freezer 64 Pro leave on their bases: (The Gemini is on top, the Freezer on the bottom) ![]() Is it possible my old board is warped and fouls the sink contact, yet works fine with the mounts-only-on-top-side AC Freezer 64? Also, we needed another image to lighten the mood: ![]() Last edited by Hak Foo; 07-October-07 at 02:37 AM.. | ||

| wow... about the only way I can see that heatsink not making contact over that large of an area is if it is either extremely concave which you should be able to see with your eyes or if your mounting it it wrong... thats just bad ![]() I would double check your mounting plate and such... If could be you have something the heatsink is hitting holding it up off the proc as well... | ||

| I tried using my own ordinary-white-paste-in-the-three-pound-tub thermal grease, and the contact was massively improved. The stuff CM provided did NOT want to spread and basically had to be "pressed" onto the CPU. I wonder if it just refused to stick to the sink and transfer heat efficiently. On a load test, though, it doesn't appear to be light years better at core cooling than the Freezer 64 Pro. A few degrees off of idle, a few degrees off load, and much noisier (one 120mm fan of 200ma rating, one of 270) But let's see if that board-wide cooling gets me anywhere on OCing. | ||

| I changed my fans to regular red blade 120mm and I bought one of these for the front. Kikboxes NorthWater Black Steel Sonic Fan Grill - 2x120mm | ||

| Well, the results are in; while using the white paste seemed to work to significantly improve the cooling relative to the CM grey paste, it's not much cooler than the Freezer 64 Pro; it runs with side-on at temps similar to the Freezer side-off. It also doesn't buy me enough extra OC to care about (217FSB is almost stable; if I can't get 225, or at least 220, it's not worth having) I had hoped one of the fans might have been blowing on whatever the problem part of my board is. But I guess not. I'll probably just box it away and wait for the rebate cheques to arrive. It's also loud due to my choice of fans being one I had handy I usually Fan Mated to 5v, and one new fan. | ||
