| Eleven-Bravo Sitrep Writer | No doubt everyone's heard the Rodney King catch-phrase by now, and/or seen/heard it used in just about every situation and/or level of human conflict. You must be living under a rock if you haven't... Some people say yes, it is possible for all people to get along, others say sometimes, and the rest refuse to believe it altogether... So what's stopping us? IMO, the main issue is the prejudices we have about this group or that group... "Americans are loud, obnoxious, and think they have the right to tell everyone else how to live..." "Anyone from the Middle East or of ME descent is just a terrorist waiting for a target..." The notions go on and on... Just about every group on the face of the Earth has at least one prejudice attached to it by another group... Now, don't get me wrong, there are folks within each group that epitomize this or that prejudice. What we need to keep in mind is that it's wrong to categorize a whole group of people by the actions / words / beliefs of an "extremist" minority. Let's go back to the Middle Eastern example. If it were true, let's suppose, just for the sake of argument... Better yet, let's really factor some FEAR into the equation... Who actually LIKES going to the dentist? Would you trust a dentist to take care of you if he or she was from a ME country? I had to have some work done today, and the dentist who I had my appointment with had a strange name (at least to me). While we waited for the anesthetic to take effect, we made conversation, and I asked the origin of his last name. He told me it was Iranian. Now, honestly, who's got nuclear alert sirens going off in your head? My previous dentist was American, and she didn't do such a bang-up job on my grill. She swabbed the area with the anesthetic gel, and almost immediately attacked with the novocaine syringe. My current dentist, Doc (I'll call him that for simplicity), had to go in and fix some stuff that the previous dentist screwed up. He swabbed the gel, and sat and chatted with me for a couple minutes before he even turned to pick up the syringe. I don't remember feeling the needle. I know it was there, I could see it coming closer, but no pain at all... My previous dentist did a rush job, and got a bit huffy that I needed a bit more novocaine. Doc was more than happy to oblige me another cc or two, and he took his time and did an awesome job, IMO. When I left, I was told I needed to make another appointment, there were a couple more teeth to be worked on (thanks to my previous dentist). Doc was friendly, understanding, and a true professional. So much so that I told the receptionist that I wanted Doc to do the work, no exceptions... I'm not suggesting that we can completely set aside the prejudices we hold towards this group or that group. I am suggesting that if we make the effort NOT to pre-judge people based on their "group", that we might just find a new friend... Or in my case, a new dentist... I can smile again!!!

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I deal with alot of different people drawing houseplans. On the average I'd say the worst people to deal with are truely singled minded. There are alot of folks like this in every race. I mostly meet the white variety. But I'm sure it would be different if I was in the ME. I'd like "To See Us All Get Along". But Kill or be Killed is the nature of the planet for everything different. Regardless of the species. Though I'd rather get along myself :-) This same theory applies in websites. Only were special cause we can work out our differences :-)

| Da' Jersey Kid | As far as the guy being Iranian, you have to think, "Well, there's obviously a good reason he isn't there now!" Expecially since he went to dental and not flight school! My ortadontist's full name is Gul Lawani, when I found out other people I know who have him, we get to play "where do YOU think he's from?" |

| Apex Tech God | This brings up a point though, i recently started working in a resturant with some family, at this resturant there is a american mexican, who not only works better than all the employees, he works for less. He has three jobs, a kid and wife, and hes maybe 20, by far, there is no one that can wash dishes cook food, and clean everything as fast as this kid can, the managers have had him working for around 2 months, and already pushed to et him his annual merit raise now. Personally starting out there for more money than he did (he wasnt cross trained as he started, he only washed) i felt bad, the kids amazing, and im glad to see him working hard for a living. He is an american citizen, and waited 10 years to get into america and now works three jobs to support his life. Now the first things i thought wheni heard there was a mexican working for this place was wow i didnt know they hired under the table, and after i learned his life, i took a different aspect on things Good post GPN72 i understand where your coming from, but one thing to keep in mind, medical school costs around $50,000 in some europien contrys to go to, and in america hundreds of thousands, my aunt went to europe for her nursing school, came back in half the time with half the cost, and seemed to be the best in her hospital just a thought
