| Imports I have to tell you I am getting a little tired of. No I am not talking about "ricers" but all the cool things that are never seen or heard of in the states. So here I am looking around online for a coffee table or at least ideas. FOund a ton of them, dug em big time. But guess what they were all in the U.K. even if I could buy one the shipping costs would eat me alive. Guess it is time to put on the modding hat and go look elsewhere and see how I can make my own. Least I got some ideas now. So then I went out on my weekly Thursday night buffett with a friend. Want to live on the edge go to a place with unlabled sushi, very little A/C and a wait staff that that just nods their head with a confused look when you order a drink. But that another story for a different time maybe. But it is somewhat on the import theme. So then we go off to one of the best record stores around. I was stoked saw a P.I.L. import (for the ones that do not know P.I.L. stands for Public Image Ltd, Johnny Rotton's band after the Sex Pistols disbanded). I saw theim live along with Blind Melon, Live, and Big Audio Dynomite ((Big Audio was pretty bad live by the way). After finally finding someone that "worked" there they removed the P.I.L. box set from the case....import...damn .....I can not read what ever language is on the cover. The sales person asked if i was interested in buying it my reply "I might be back for it after I find some info on it." I do not or can not afford to pay 70 frogskins for a cd that I have no clue what is on it. If anyone knows a good place to find imported cd's let me know I am wanting to find out what is on this cd. Rep goes to someone if they link me to it . Black box yellow P.I.L. on the front has about 5 cd's in it i believe. I am feeling a little uncomfortable seems like I am visiting another country or something. Before anyone goes off on yelling raciest I am not, not even close. But I do need some friends that know languages or something just to know if I am getting robbed somewhere down the line. Or maybe this is just a reversal on our times. Seems like folks over seas want everything we have and vice versa. And just out of curiousity I would really like to know from our friends in other countries if a American made product makes it there, Is it labled only in english also? Imports seem to be something that alot of people strive for. I am wondering if it is just the thought of having something from a different land that maybe alot of other would not have? Or the stereotype that most things from a different culture is better made or have a better design that their counter points? I have no idea but my search must go on finding either a person from Japan or a site that has this box set. Have a great day | ||

| Here in the States, the tuner crowd is attraced to Japanese-only cars, like the Nissan Skyline, Subaru Impreza 22B and the Nissan Silvia. Many people here in the states convert their cars to look like the Japanese version, complete with the J-spec motor, some even go to the extent of converting it to right-hand drive. However in Japan the craze is Mustangs and Corvettes. | ||

Coincidentally, I always tell people there are more right-hand-drive Saturns in the states than Japanese ones. They made several thousand of them for postal use. There's more of them in Japan, too, for that matter. I don't get into the Japanese-fanboy Have you noticed that more and more American musclecars are getting into drifting? heh... don't ever tell a hot rodder he can't compete at something!

I just got back from the NHRA import Drag and Drift event. There where 2 new mustangs and a '67 Camaro in the drift competition. The mustangs carried a lot of momentum through the corners and the Camaro, well it was painfull to watch it try drift.

| To be honest... you don't see many US cars here in Europe... and if you see one it's likely a SUV, 4x4 or pickup... You will see lot's & lot's of Asian cars here....but.... they are either "international" models or models designed especially for the EU market... rarely does one see "Japan" specific models here... The "Tuning Scene" here is mainly made up of a mix of EU cars & Asian cars... no wonder, imho.. parts are easy to come by and the cars are generally more suited for the roads & traffic situation here... Meaning generally crowded roads and cramped parking space, lot's of curved roads, lot's of "speed changes" in a stretch of road (speed limits, traffic)... all in all you'd be better off here with ralley type of car car then with a circuit type of car....
