Thumbs up Dinner time

As many of you may have noticed, we occasionally have the food related post.

And as we haven't had one in a while (and I had a bit of writer's block) here's the latest....

Now I just plain love the Food Network, some shows more than others. I love Good Eats as well as 30 Minute Meals. Good Eats appeals to me from the nerd perspective, as I love to learn why cooking works the way it does. 30 Minute Meals is great simply from the food perspective.

Yes, Rachael can get a bit grating on the nerves due to her bubbly persona, but she sure can cook!

While the majority of her recipies are quick, I've found the only way to get under 30 minutes is to have assistance with the prep work. Otherwise, it ends up around 45 minutes, but that isn't so bad considering you will be eating a great tasting meal that is better for you than a Mooby Burger.

Now since the wife and I both like to cook, both have jobs, and are both wiped out at the end of the day, these recipes work great for us. I particularly like her latest book: 365:NO REPEATS - A Year of Deliciously Different Dinners

So far, we have worked our way through about 60-70 of the recipes so far, and I would say that there have only been a handfull of them (under 5) that I didn't care for. The vast majority were either good, very good, or excellent!

Here is a link to one of the recipies that my wife and I both loved: Papa al Pomodoro

The only complaint that I have is that there are occasionally too many chicken recipies grouped together, so that if you are going in numeric order, it may get old on the third day.

One other thing to note is that when she is cooking something spicy, she REALLY makes it spicy.

I strongly recommend this book and hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

A topic that is near and dear to my heart, FOOD! That is a good book Im_gumby! And yes she is a bit perky at times.

One cookbook I use every week, and have for about the last 4 years Tidewater on the Half Shell. It has a great mix of Southern cooking, seafood, cosmopolitan, intimate dinners and entertaining.

I am known in my immedate family for my Infamous "Orange Chicken", I also experimented a bit, using Frosted Flaks instead of the regular stuff. It gave the chicken a bit of a sweet taste, but it was good. I also cook rice pudding on occasion, and on holidays we have our own secret recipes.

We have a roaster that my grandmother bought for her kids (my mom, uncle and aunt) to cook full chickens in. I made I nice brown sugar glaze using brown sugar and water (along with some spices, such as all spice and paprika)

If Rachel Ray says, "E.V.O.O. ....that's extra virgin olive oil!" for the 3 millionth time and smiles to the camera like no one has heard that before one more time, I"m going to shoot myself.

I'll stick with Good Eats, Bobbie Flay's grilling shows and Iron Chef.

I'm right there with ya, but her recipies are great tasting, generally easy to make, and quick.

The other thing to mention about that book, all of the recipies are portioned to serve 4-5 adults.

Anybody seen No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain? Mmmm eating unknown parts for a living.
