Default Sea Sick

So I decided to go get a couple of games the other day. Postal 2 AW and HL2 episode one. Just finished AW and enjoyed it as much as Postal 2. A little short but still fun. Lets go install HL2 episode one and see how that goes.

Five minutes thirteen seconds later........

I felt like my sushi way trying to crawl its way back out my mouth. I really do not understand game developers and want to be game developers that think it adds realism to a fps if you get to have the motion of them walking. So I tried a experment I went for a walk and guess what?

I just realized that my eyes are connected to something other than jello and they do not wiggle around when I walk. Lets try another experment I grab my bike and hit every pothole I can find. Still no jumping up and down motion. And before anyone asks it is a hard tail. Third experment i jumped up and down. still didnt make my eyes wiggle and jiggle. Even though I did get some strange looks from the neighbors.

I look on the net yet again about the motion sickness on Half Life 2 and its second part pre curser whatever...thanks Lucas for royaling confusing the public and starting a trend of later pieced story lines inserted years after a release to make a buck. But that is another story. There were many reports of motion sickness in both of the HL games why doest Valve listen to the public? I mean they have a winner of a game but between the servers, codes , updates and motion sickness seems to me that someone somewhere would listen. In addition wake up and say "Hey guys we might be starting to cut our own throats."

I really think I am going to start doing some major research from now on before getting a game, talk to folks see what motions are like. I mean Postal 2 might not be the most cutting edge game out there graphic wise but at least it was playable.

No offense man, but I have no idea what you're talking about. I experienced no jiggling when I played

I think I know what your talking about. I got it when I patched Bf2, when ever I came close to an explosion its like I was drunk. Changing the graphics settings fixed it.

Some people experience motion sickness in certain games for reasons unknown.

Actually the reasons are very known. What your eyes are seeing doesn't jive with what your inner ear is sensing. Your eyes say your moving around and your sense of balance knows better, just the opposite of reading a book in a car. But both actions can result in the same effects.

I've actually taken Dramamine to finish some games because I refused to pay fifty bucks and just quit. If I can I always turn off the "bob" option if a game developer is thoughtful enough to offer the option, it certainly doesn't help your aim if you're bobbing around.

I agree with Flounder, it's really not very realistic and for many it causes motion sickness. It's a view of the world as seen through a hand held camera, not one that has been filtered by the brains ability to compensate for the effects of movement on eye sight. Half-Life2 didn't do it to me, but Quake's physics did. It's rather individual and it can usually be overcome after some time playing. But headaches, hot flashes and the urge to blow chunks is very common in games.

The only game I have ever played that accurately got the motion thing right was Call of Duty, when you're storming up the hill playing as the Russians in the early part of the Soviet Campaign and you get nailed with artillery, it's pretty similar to what I remember feeling when I hit that storm drain many moons ago.

But yeah that's pretty retarded.

Yep I'm one of those people that get motion sickness while playing games...certain games I just get used to and can play and others I'll get sick 10-15 minutes into it lol. very weird.
