Default Trouble

Well I was working on something today and then it came to my attention the it was Thursday. My week has been all messed up, I have been living a day behind it seems.

Well what I was working on was a old clock that has been in my family a few years. From what I know it was from my great grandmother. She gave it to my grandmother as a wedding present, in turn my Mom got it when she married. Now I have it and I bet it will not bring me any luck on the marrage gig....but who knows.

Anyway my apartment is a wreck stuff everywhere, need to clean, various computer guts all over the place and dirty laundry.

What is the the first task I decide to tackle?

You guessed it out comes the screwdrivers to see how a clock from maybe the 20's was made. I addition to that out comes the sandpaper and other various buffing materials to get it all cleaned up. What does all this have to do with modding you may ask?

I think the one thing each and everyone of us here has in common is the fact that either we want to get our hands dirty and personalize anything in our lives.

This "need " seems to migrate into our lives but there seems to be a root that sparked it. As I look at the guts of the clock labled so things do not get mixed up. I started thinking of the first thing I have ever taken apart to only rebuild just to know how or what is involved. It might not sounds like that big of a deal but it was a skateboard. Now any skaterat out there might be laughing his head off at that. But this was back in the day when bearings were not sealed, decks were made from what ever wood you could get, roller skate trucks and clay wheels. From there came bikes, then a VW Ghai and a 68 bug frame bolted to a 63 shell. It was nice to think of everything that I have taken apart and rebuilt.

Now again as I look around my apartment I start to wonder if I will ever get all this stuff put back together. I will it will just take some time. When it all comes together it will have a special memory influnced by my hands, that maybe I can pass down to the next modder.

I know Im this way. Just today I had an old dell GX1 with its guts all over my room. Last night I ripped "fatty" apart and went to bed with screwdrivers and even a hard drive on my bed. Sometimes I wonder if I can use a computer without tearing it completely apart first.
