Wink GrandpaNoob72's 2nd Daily Disturbance Post!

Looks like GN72 is out saving the world again

----

Again, I apologize for having to ask someone else to post my DD material in my stead... My unit is hot and heavy into the training cycle right now, and I'm actually lucky that I get to work on my DD post over the weekend and then have Iron Serif post it for me...

Today's topic just HAS to somehow overcome the rousing success of last week's post somehow... Hmm, let me think about it for a few minutes...

Stuff that bugs me... Nah, sounds like I'm a crotchety old fart. I am, but that's not the point...

Stuff that I wonder about... Nope, some of the stuff I wonder about would probably get me committed to an institution if it ever became public knowledge...

Stuff that I wish for... Meh, don't we all?

I know... Ever-so-simple things that I enjoy... Yeah, that should work...

I enjoy...

...watching the sun set with my trusty cup of coffee in one hand, and my other arm around my wife...

...having my daughter come screeching happily into the bedroom to wake me up on a lazy Saturday morning...telling me "Good Morning, Daddy!" and "I love you, Daddy!"

...publicly acknowledge and reward my soldiers for a job well done, and see the pride and satisfaction on their young faces...

...setting my alarm clock to get up early in the morning, and waking up on my own before it goes off...

...coming home from a week-long field exercise to hear about how my daughter missed me so much all week...

...seeing the guy that just a few minutes earlier blew past me doing 20+ over the speed limit, pulled over by a cop, and waving to them both...

...being able to teach an old dog a new trick, even if that old dog is myself...

...sitting down to a good movie with a big bowl of Butter Lover's popcorn and a XXL Mountain Dew... oh, and the Mrs., too...

...pulling the trigger and knowing I got ya before you got me... gaming, MILES, or IRL...

...getting a job done before the due date, and having the rest of the week/weekend to relax and enjoy all the other items on my list...

I think that's a pretty good start... Anyone else want to weigh on on the simple things you enjoy?

I've had a few moments that I really enjoyed....

Standing out underneath the North Dakota sky without a town around for 60 miles, looking up, and seeing one of the most beautiful magnetic storms one could ever see (and other nights when it's clear as a bell).

Driving out across the Painted Desert at sunrise.

Seeing the fog literally roll in over the hills from Half Moon Bay.

Mountain biking through the hills of Santa Cruz.

Sitting on a porch of a cabin on the Blackfeet Indian Resevation in Montana on a brisk, cool spring morning, watching the sun come up over the land. Drinking a hot cup of coffee and listening to the silence.

Being the first one down a beginner's ski trail at Mutter Alm in Innsbruck, Austria one February long ago. They had a good snow the night before and they said a lot of the beginner trails never get a lot of the new snow.

Going to Oktoberfest in Munich and meeting several of the locals.

Waking up on a beach in Corfu with a lovely (and limber) Greek goddess whose name to this day I don't know (I didn't speak Greek and she didn't speak English).

I've had a few other moments, but I know what you're talking about there, GP. Thanks for the great post!

Looking up at the night sky (preferrably with as little light and noise pollution as possible) and thinking: DAMN, space is BIG.

falling asleep while looking at the night sky and dreaming of what its like in space
having a snowball fight at 1 in the morning on Christmas Day in Houston
looking at my computer and being proud of it for being able to take out everything I dish out to it and then some
having my little sister tell me how much she loves me
doing something new and doing it perfect
those moments with your friends when nothing can go wrong

nice post GN72

Flying a Kite with my Wife!

Having everything come together before my Chief tell me to have it done...

Having Dinner come out right, and the wife enjoying it...

When me and the wife.... well you know!

Seeing the cleat nigh sky from one of the seven seas

Or seeing the deep royal blue that the sea turns when you get out deep... it is an indescribable blue.

Nothing better than wathing waves break over the bow.

Being able to fix a computer with out issue, or after long hours of trouble shooting having it work!

Something that makes me smile?

Punching the throttle and feeling my head press against the head rest.

Watching a car chase.

Walking around a corner, hitting function, and shooting a guy point blank in the chest with a shotgun and watching rag doll take over as his lifeless body hits the wall and slides down to the floor.

Putting more rounds into a guys chest than nessicary and putting one more in his head just to make sure.

The game far cry that alows me to do this.

Flying my helicopter.

And finally, cuddling. Yeah I said cuddling, its not better than ya know... but it still kicks ass.

You know what makes me happy?

Watching a thunderstorm in the dark, drinking a beer and kicking back with friends. Best times of my life right there.

Oh, and sleeping. That makes me extremely happy.

besides the day I got married to Mrs. Soup...

coming home to my two daughters as they come running to see me with big goofy grins...
I used to think there were a lot of things that made me happy but I didn't understand what "happy" really was until my two goofballs melted my heart.
