| Welcome to another Monday edition of Rob's Daily Disturbance!!! This week, I'd like to talk about true friends. A true friend doesn't worry about what you look like. A true friend doesn't give a damn what kind of clothes you wear. A true friend won't make fun of a bad haircut. You would think that these kinds of friends are pretty rare. Where in the world would you find a friend like this? Well, the answer just may surprise you. Meet Salem, my nine-year-old cat. He's been a true friend to me for as long as I can remember....in his own way. He loves to curl up inbetween my arm and chest at night when I first crawl into bed, eventually migrating down to inbetween my calves by the time I wake up. He's always sitting on the bath mat while I take a shower, knowing that he's going to get his belly scratched as soon as I dry off. Salem loves it when I lay down on the couch to watch a movie because it gives him a chance to curl up around my tummy for an hour or two. After being my cat (or, as he sees it, my master) for the past eight years (I got him when he was ten months old), we've broken through the communication barrier that exist between animals and humans. I can recognize the meow he gives when he wants his litter box changed or when he wants a new catnip-laced toy mouse out of the jar on top of the hutch. I know that there are birds sitting out on the patio when I hear him make that freaky noise that cats always make when they want something really bad. I also know when he can see the bottom of the cat bowl.... I have to stop here a second and ask all the other cat owners out there. What the hell is it with cats and being able to see the bottom of the food bowl? They act like they have no food and have been starving for the past five days! The bowl could be filled with food, but they'll eat a hole straight down in the middle and as soon as they see it...oh no! I'm out of food!!! I swear he's starting to recognize some of my voice signals, too. When I come home from work at 4 a.m. and sit down at the computer, he'll sit at the door and literally howl in such a lonely voice that breaks your heart. Without even looking, I'll say, "give me five minutes or come over here if you're so lonely". He'll either walk away for a few minutes or he'll come over and jump up on the computer desk right next to the computer screen. The whole point of my Daily Disturbance post is this...if you've been feeling down a little bit more and more lately, I'd seriously look into getting yourself an animal companion, if you can. Dogs are always great; however, they tend to require a little bit more care as you have to let them out a few times a day and constantly groom them. Cats are great in that they are willing to give you some space and generally take care of themselves except for the feeding and changing of the litter box. Birds are great, but they also require some work as do reptiles. All in all, it gives you someone to talk to from time to time when no one else is around and you know? Sometimes that's just what you need. Someone to listen to you. Until next week, stay safe out there, Rob P.S. Be sure to check out Crazy-J's Pet Gallery Thread! | ||

| There's nothing better than a cat for a pet. I've had one in my life since I was born over 22 years ago. I remember having a cat as a little kid, which we called Tarzan, and it was the sweetest thing you'd ever meet. Tarzy would sit in my lap and watch Sesame Street with me (yeah, I was REALLY young) and just follow me around everywhere. There is another cat (who is at home with my parents in Arizona, so I only see her once a year ), which was named "katty-kat" by my little sister back when she was like 2. We just call her Ka-chee now (dunno why). I love having a cat that comes running when you call her name, and who lets you pet her for hours while you just lay in bed all day.I wish I could have a cat where i'm living right now. Damn townhousing. ![]() Great thread, Rob. It hits me really close to home. | ||

He likes just about everything. I'll go get some food to go (i.e., Subway, Hardee's, etc.) and his favorite place to sit is right next to me with his paws up on my leg. My fault, really, since I let him get away with it. However, the one time he won't bother me is when I have Taco Bell. He got some hot sauce on his nose once and didn't stop licking it for about 20 minutes. Rob | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| I wish I had my digital camera's charger with me. I've had a Tokay gecko for about 4 weeks now. Her name changes according to what I put on the whiteboard but right now she's (Good Golly) Ms. Molly. She's a bitch and probably hates me, but that's how Tokays are. I don't handle her much but she's broken my skin 3/4 of the times I've tried. I love her. She's not really that high maitenance though. You feed her a cricket or two every night, change her water, spray her cage, and occaisionally scoop some poop. It's usually only five minutes out of the day and since she sits next to the computer I don't really forget. The attached images are other tokay geckos that look a lot like her. Normally their pupils are much larger because they're nocturnal (and I am too, although against my will). That must have been taken with a whole lot of light Rob, your cat looks great. I'm allergic but still would like to have one someday | ||

| I have a cat too, as some of you may recall we rescued her from the street (got her on my b-day..), she only 5 months old and shes already pretty big for a kitten. We named her pumpkin (because of the color of her fur) We thought she was in heat a couple days ago (she was rolling around on the floor for no reason, along with meowing loudly and wanting attention..) She drinks out the toilet for some strange reason even though she has water in her dish, and makes weird noises when you pet her (no not puring, its a combination of purring and meowing..) If you stare at her too long she does the meow purr thing, arches her back and side steps..and then if you make any movment, she flys (Im estimating her speed to be 60MPH...)lol.. But whats the deal with women who think there some big mystery with guys who have cats? Ive seen it on magazine covers as a featured article. I used to beleave in the egyptian god thing, where cats are considered gods, and provided protection for your house. EDIT-Ok done you can read now.. | ||

| Unfortunately whenever I buy pets, they die. I had a lizard that got its tail accidentally ripped offand later it died. I had a piranha, later it died. I had 3 guinea pigs and one lab rat, later they died. I have had over 100 fishes, later they died. It is bullsh*t pets always die when I have one. How the hell did my blue shubunkin fish die? I cleaned the tank, fed it everyday, and yet it dies. Nice cat, hope it lives longer than my pets. | ||

| I must admit I wasn't a big cat person before I moved in with my roomate. Mainly becuase my mom's cat was so evil I still have scars from him. That darn cat gave me three stitches. On the other hand my roomates cats are pretty cool. One you can play with like a dog. She'll actually fetch little balls of paper. She meets me at the door when I come home. She cheers me up when I don't feel good. She's pretty cool. The other cat is a complete moron. She'll run and hide behind the toilet at the slightest noise. Also when you're using the bathroom, she'll sit and cry at the door until you let her in. It's kinda funny to see her freak out when you flush the toilet. She wants to hide behind the toilet, but is scared of it cause that's what's making the noise. She's such a dorky cat. There both pretty cool though. | ||

| I've got 2 cat's. I pretty much know exactly what they want, when they want it. The big question is if I'll give it to them in the proper sequence. An example - my oldest cat won't come inside the house unless your standing in the "proper" place at the door. They can be funny and infuriating. The Baby - Queen Emperor Goddess ![]() Turbo - aka The Little Fat Boy I guess his balance isn't as good with the bobtail because he doesn't run he hops. Like a bunny :-) ![]() | ||

| Definately my beast. After my 14 yr old cat that i had outdoors, grew up with its preceding familys, about 7 litters and the same mother. Until the 7th which is where we got our cat, he grew up followed me around the place, died 14 years old, then I got this one after my aunt took care of it where she worked and then brought it home, After it lived here for a week it fell and broke its leg(cats don't always land on all fours) got a pin for is shoulder and it became my house cat. very nebby and annoying but you gotta love it, He likes to smell peoples feetand shoes, and talks to my family like hes a kid. Kinda silly but cas are wonderful | ||
