| TOP TEN SIGNS YOU'RE NOT THE COMPUTER GURU YOU THINK YOU ARE! Let's face it... on the path to wisdom, there are speedbumps... Just when you think you're the most l337 h4x0r this side of the pacos. You meet someone who smacks you upside the head, or some n00b asks you a question you smack your head after answering (or not being able to answer). TOP TEN: 1. When you ask a friend if you're l337... he snorts his Pepsi out his nose and laughs so hard he cries. 2. Everyone is impressed with your knowledge of PCs... except the people who actually know how to use them. 3. You know all the acronyms like *"CPU", "BIOS", "CMOS", etc... but damned if you can remember what they stand for! 4. You can program in three languages, but you still say to a repair person when your rig goes down, "my computer thingie is broken". 5. Your VERY proud of your Celeron processor... it kicks ass without being expensive like a REAL Pentium! (same goes for Duron/Athlon) 6. You want a bigger processor... you're not sure WHY, but you know you want one. 7. Putting in a new PCI or AGP card makes you break into a sweat... especially when thinking about the risk of ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) that the folks at Best Buy told you to be careful of. 8. You're at a convention of other computer users and you're rising above most of the wanna-bes... you're feelin' good when someone mentions something you've never heard of... and everyone else seems to know what it is 'cept you. 9. Your troubleshooting skills include "Control, Alt, Delete" and maybe a driver load. 10. When someone asks you if you have an A+ certificate, you wonder what that is... but you feel maybe you should go get one... *- Central Processing Unit, Basic Input/Output System, Complimentary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor. | ||

| My Mom and I are competing for who has the best hardware... ADD: She buys the hardware for her rig, and I install it... but we have a T-shirt that says "My Computer is Bigger, Better and Faster than yours"... so who-ever has the best stuff gets the shirt... Right now, she's in the lead 'cause she has Klipsh 5.1 speakers, a 19" monitor (versus my 17"), a scanner (period... I don't have one), and her Processor is 100 Mhz faster than mine my 1.5 to her 1.6 P4 (Although I overclocked past hers... and she doesn't want to OC her rig). She also has 200 gigs of hard-drive space (120+80 versus my 190 between 3 drives (80+80+30). She also has a 550 Watt PSU... I've got a better motherboard, video card, and watercooling... but all in all, I'm still behind. I'm going to upgrade to a 2.53 Ghz P4 and change over to PC-2700 RAM... that SHOULD put me back in the lead... Last edited by Darksamurai; 03-May-03 at 02:58 PM.. | ||

| "Your VERY proud of your Celeron processor... it kicks ass without being expensive like a REAL Pentium! (same goes for Duron/Athlon)" Not the case with my CPU(I have a real Pentium 4), but my video card is a GF4MX 420, and it's good. I get about 100FPS in Descent 2, and my friend Caitlin Williams says, "If the FPS is at least 60, it's good enough." | ||
