| Movie Review: Four Brothers They came home to bury mom... and her killer Intro Directed by: John Singleton Written by: David Elliot & Paul Lovett Producer : Lorenzo Di Bonaventura Genre: Drama / Action / Mystery / Humor Wide Release: August 12, 2005 Rating: R Main Actors: Mark Wahlberg - Bobby Mercer Tyrese Gibson - Angel Mercer André Benjamin - Jeremiah Mercer Garrett Hedlund - Jack Mercer Terrence Dashon Howard - Lt. Green Fionnula Flanagan - Evelyn Mercer Official movie website offers soundtrack snippets, downloads and more. Four Brothers. When in the theater to see Hustle & Flow the preview for Four Brothers came on. It looked like it would be the next movie for me to see. Not only based on the trailer itself, but the cast looked to be a winner, too. Especially with Mark Walhberg. Don't think I have seen any movie he has been in that was not thoroughly enjoyable. Background After the adoptive mother of 4 men is murdered, they return home for her funeral. Since the brothers are of different races the point is made that only one thing makes a family, and that is love. Some critics have said the movie is all about revenge, but I disagree. The story is more about good versus bad, and that everyone has good in them. Maybe I am too simplistic though. Acting/Actors This movie starts out with a bang, and does not stop till it is over. There is no part that makes you check your watch, or want to run to the bathroom to rid yourself of that 32 ounce drink. You meet each of the lead characters when they come home for the funeral. Which is done through the eyes of a cop who grew up with them, and is played by Terrence Howard, of Husle & Flow. Each actor seems to suit the personality of their character completely. So each one is believable in their roles which places Wahlberg as the tough brother, Benjamin as the smart brother, Gibson as the sexy one, and Hedlund as the baby brother. The special bond each son had with their Mom is learned through flashbacks. During one scene I did find myself wanting to see more of the individual stories on each of them, but in the interest of keeping to the story at hand this was not explored. Cinematography/Special Effects Four Brothers is shot with a "gritty city" look to the film, and an in your face closeness that fits the setting of Chicago. The snowy car chase scene will keep you on the edge of your seat for a few minutes, as will most of the other action scenes. Small details are noticed at particular moments, for purposes of backgvround and character insight. Summary When I go to the movies it is for the pure enjoyment of the film. I do not claim to be a film critic, but only know what I like. This movie is one that I definately liked. If you like fast paced drama, that has action and mystery with a good smattering of humor then this is a film you will like as well. On the Foe scale of popcorn, I give Four Brothers 8 out of 10! | Awwww, I was gonna get around to writing a review on this movie, oh well. This was one of the best movies I have seen all year. Just because of the theme of the movie, it still was very good. If I were to rate it, I would give it a 9/10 because it was just so awesome. | ||
