| For this Saturday's Guest Writer Spot, please help me welcomeÂ…slickcam! slickcam is one of Pimprigs younger members, and I think it will be very interesting to hear his point of view about being a high school student and what that means to him. Hell, some of us might not even remember our high school days ![]() So enjoy ![]() __________________________________________________ _________ Wow, what an honor it is to be writing for the DD! Anyhow, I consider myself somewhat of a ghost here at PR. I read a lot and post seldom. I have been a member since February 2k3. And I have had my share of posts, but rarely do I post. But, I'm here, have no fear! So, because of my lack of posting, I feel that an introduction and a little background is key! I'm 15, 16 on the 20th, and I'm a High school student. I have only built and modded one rig so far. I have the interested, just all my funds go towards my paintball addiction. When im not at school, you could most commonly find me on the paintball field, I Play most every weekend, with top pro players, and my goal is to eventually go pro. Ambitious, yes. Possible...well hopefully. If not mowing muppets *paintballing* I am either at band practice or on my dirtbike. Marching band and music are a big part in my life as well. I find music as a way to express myself, and love it! If you watched the 2k5 Rose Bowl Parade, I was in it! Thats right, I marched in the 2005 Rose Bowl Parade with my band! As to motorcross, I have been raised around motorsports, ever since i can remember I have been at the track, watching my dad race. And I was on my first dirt bike by 6 years old. Needless to say, I can keep up with the best of them! After High school, I'm interested in pursuing a degree in either engineering of sorts or Military Science. Which brings us to the topic. The importance in staying in school! From someone in school! This is mainly for the younger crowd...I hope...those that are still in school! Dragging multiple, heavy, books through the halls, day after day. Enduring hours, and hours, and hours...and hours, of countless homework problems. And you wonder why? Why, do I do this? You find yourself asking, how am I going to use this later in life?! Well, hopefully if you keep reading, I can open your eyes! Although, there are some things that you may not ever use in your life, most everything somewhere down the line you will use. Wether you think it or not. Be it at a job, or helping a friend, or even impressing your g/f's parents with some useless trivia you learned in History. EVERY THING YOU LEARN IN SCHOOL IS IMPORTANT! You may not want to accept it, but you have too...There will be many things in life that you that don't enjoy, and sometimes learning about pointless things, is one that you just have to endure! You're along for the ride, so you might as well do as best as you can! Dropping out. Sure, kids do it all the time. But, in my eyes, they are just blind to the truth. They don't care about what happens now. Sure, it may be all right now, no school...got friends that will support you. But, you have to look at the longer run of things. 30 years later, when all your friends have moved on, and you need money. Try finding a decent job without a high school diploma. Only unless you plan on working at McDonalds for the rest of your life...why do it? Also, you have been in school the majority of your LIFE...you have 2 maybe three years of it left, are you that much of a whimp to suck it up and at least stick out and graduate? Drugs and school. Drugs are bad...mmmkayy? Finally, some wholehearted truth in southpark! If a freaking character in SOUTH PARK of all things can tell you that, then there must be some truth to it! Once again, it's about the long run of things. Today's world is all about instant gratification. I'm guilty and I fall under that category! But not when it comes to drugs! Why would you pay a lot of money to harm your body? Not only that, but the effects of drugs on students is devastating. They don't just call it dope for nothing yah know! In a general summary, be patient. True, I'm only 15 and I haven't finished High school yet, but I think there are some truths to what I have said. If you are patient, and put in something, you will get something out of it. If you put in nothing, you will get nothing. Nothing is free! You often see doctors, driving in their nice Mercedes, Beamers, etc. you think to yourself how nice it would be right? Well, I'll tell you one thing, I bet that he didn't drop out. I bet he didn't do drugs, I bet he actually worked hard! But look at all the good that has come of it! I thank you greatly for your time, and I hope that if anything, I make someone out there reading it, still in High school at least think twice. __________________________________________________ _________ Awesome job slick. I think all of us can always find something to learn from our younger friends all throughout lifeÂ…thanks for your insight ![]() | ||

| Excellent write-up, slickcam! Makes me wish, even more, that I could go back and do my four year sentence of high school all over again...blah, the choices I would've changed... :sigh: ...that's something for a piss and moan post or something, heh! Keep up the great work, slick! Cheers! | ||

I thought the same thing when I was 15, but just wait man things start changing fast. Its interesting to see a 15 year old writing a long thought out post though, wish some other younger members would step up and reconize. ![]() Last edited by SpikeShot; 20-August-05 at 08:37 PM.. | |||||||||||||||||||||

| Go band man. Band is great because you get to meet people before school starts so you have friends where as other people might not. College band is so much different, you should definatly keep with band. Just remember, most of the smart kids are in band and it helps to know a trombone player that has the same major as you. | ||
