Post Gaming Personalities

With the recent unveiling of the PR sister gaming site, Uberwoot.com, and the addition of the Battlefield 2 PR/UW Server, I thouhgt it was a good time to revisit an older article of mine.

In my 4 years of online gaming I have observed many people. It has been my experience that most (not all), fall into certain categories. See if you recognize someone you know, or even yourself.

Mr. I. Quit - This is the one we hope is least like ourself. All this guy does is complain if he is having and off game. Eventually, he gets so worked up over his poor performance, he quits.

"I'm not winning, I quit!"

Mr. Arrogant - Typically, this guy is young, immature, or both. He is good, knows he is good, and rubs everyone's nose in it. In extreme and annoying cases he uses Leet Speak to tell you of his skill.

"I pwn you, w00t!"

Mr. Humble - This is the guy who is good, and wins most of the time. Best of all though he is humble about his skill, and game. Willing to help other players with their game, and give them tips. He also is the one who mentions everyone elses good scores, and game improvement.

"Wow! Nice score bud. Your game has really gotten good."

Mr. Fun - This is the one who really pays no attention to the scores, although he usually is one of the top players in stats. He is in it to have fun, and makes gaming more fun for everyone else, too.

"Score? Oh that...."

Mr. Easy Going - This guy is probably most stress free person in life overall. He is the one who whether he is winning, losing or anyting in between, he is good to go. He plays because he loves the whole gaming experience.

"Woohoo! That was a blast! Let's do that again!"

Mr. N. ItToWin - This one is always one of the top players. He likes to see his name on top of the scores, and stats. If he is having an off game, he is not a happy camper. In some cases he gets a bit miffed over it. At these times he has to have an excuse. Some of those are: his copnnection is messed up, his ping is too high, his FPS are low, etc. etc. It is everything but his fault.

"Man, my score is off tonight. Must be my ping or the server lagging."

So where do you see yourself in these personalities? Would the people who game with you say the same? Or do you have a personality not listed that you have seen?

Thank you for reading!

You forgot:

Mr. Beginner McLuck
This person is usually the person who is top of the scores, even though he really has no idea what he is doing. And alot of times the Mr. I. Quit, Mr. Arrogant, and Mr. N. ItToWin get pissed off when McLuck is top on the scores.

Actually I can see a bit of myself in most of those, except arrogant guy. I've never been that good. Nice little right up.

How about the Team Killer Ultra n00b? They guy who gets on a server, never having played the game and immediately starts shooting people on his own team.

Foe, that is so true. Repeated run-ins with Mr. I quit and Mr. Arrogant/Mr. Abusive are enough to really make me wish that i was gaming at a LAN...so i could reach over and smack 'em on the back of the head.

The only people that i ever regret gaming with (read: i don't have an enjoyable experience) are the whiners and the trash talkers. The other types that you've listed generally have at least one thing in common: consideration for the people that they are gaming with. IMO, that's what really matters when playing in a group.

Depending on my mood, I am a mixture between Mr. Arrogant, Mr. Humble, and Mr. Easy Going.
If you ever played me in cs, you know that I have the skills that pay the bills, so in CS im mostly Mr. Arrogant, but I try to help people as uber pro as me, but It just doesn't happen.
Usually while playin UT2K4 Im Mr. Humble because Im good, but nowhere near the best.
When playing WoW, I am defintly Mr. Easygoing because I just try to not let a 60 shaman ganking me bug me because it usually happens a few times a day.
You should have had a few more choices because though some of those described me partially, they still missed their mark with gamers such as me.

And NO, I do not play to win.

ADD: If somebody is a noob, I let them know by just forcing the fact down their throat.
I am the one who clears servers because they think I hack sometimes.

depends on who i'm playing with and what game i'm playing with. though there's also the compulsive obsessive guy who has to get every single thing in the game, do every side quest, and fulfill every possible quest. that would be me . ..

edit: just took a look at uberwoot. how the heck did i miss that?

LOL! Glad you guys all enjoyed the write up.

Funny when you game using voice comms, and can actually hear what the other players are saying. Versus when they only type things in the game window. You get to really hear them fuss, cuss and laugh. Adds a lot to the game itself when you can hear the voices of your teammates.

When I play competitively in leagues, I don't talk unless someone asks a question or compliments me on a play. In professional leagues, talking trash to the other team is not proper ettiquete. So I probably fall under the Mr. Humble category, unless silence is an arrogant thing.

When I play for fun, I usually joke around and talk some trash in jest. Since score doesn't matter in this case, I don't really care how I play. so I fall under Mr. Fun when I play for fun. Amazing deduction, huh?

As was the case last night in "Digi's House of Pain" or some such funny thing he called the TeamSpeak server... A bunch of us joined in and played some BF2... Common courtesy prevailed, despite the occasional profane outburst or good-natured ribbing when the server autobalanced someone off the squad/team/side..."TRAITOR!!!" Oh, and a good deal of "GET A RAPTOR!!!" as well...

But back on topic... I try to limit the trash talking I do... Very discrediting when you talk a lot of bull and then can't back it up... I'm stubborn as a Missouri mule, so I don't throw a tizzy kiniption and quit... But if/when I play, I like to win, so I play accordingly... Having fun doing so makes it even more fun, IMO...

I have been know to do that many many times. I also help ALOT of players improve there game. Did it in CS S, and now in BF2.

O yea I can lose it but usually I never get touched...but if I were to lose a choppar battle I will recruit GotBeef from Xfire to come in and take his out out. (best dam gunner I ever had, period) But if I am not near top scores its usually cause I was working on the server or just bsing with a pistol...(but that dont happen to much, hehe. )

"GET A RAPTOR!!!" as well...

Man you got to love what is turning into the one of the best inside jokes on PR amoung us BF2 pimps. Lovin' life

Nice write up Foe, keep these on coming!

its weird... im really good at ut2k4 (or was anyways, i havnt really played in a long time i kinda quit gaming alltogether) but when i played unreal and owned everyone in a server i was always mr. humble. the only exception is i always do a rediculous amount of dancing when i win and it shows me on everyone's screen, but thats more of a signature than a victory dance.

counter strike on the other hand, im not as good at, but i brag WAY more about it. i think the difference is i dont really care how well i do in counter strike, i play purley for fun. i use almost exclusivley 3 guns (the TMP, the usp, and the famas/clarion whatever its called) and always change my name to reflect the gun ive chosen (i.e. "TMP g3dd0n" or "Famas g3dd0n") because i want people to know that i pwn them with crappy guns. i have the phrase "i <3 TMP" bound to a key, and whenever i run down a hall and kill 3 people on a single clip with headshots from a TMP (arguably considered one of the worst guns in the game, but it is truly a hs machine its very difficult not to get headshots with in my opinion) i let them know that i just pwned them and they should bow to my superior 1337ess.

Not sure what kind of player I am. Sometimes I want to win, to prove to myself that I can do it. Sometimes I am just fooling around and generally having a good time. When I first met Foe, she kicked my butt around in her server in a game we both played back then. I was new to online gaming, and decided I wanted to become as good as Foe and a couple of others of the regular players in the server. Don't think I ever succeeded in that
So, guess I am a combo of Mrs. EasyGoing and Mrs. Annoyed-at-myself if I dont live up to my own expectations when I want it.

Good one, Foe!

Mr. RealityCheck steps in and asks, "It's just a game right?"
Kids: "Yeah..."
RealityCheck: "And nobody is bleeding?"
Kids: "Noo..."
RealityCheck: "Then it doesn't really matter, does it? Quit arguing or I'LL take care of the games."

I am generally Mr. Fun, Mr. Humble, or MR. EasyGoing although I am still a beginner compared to most of the people I play ET with. I will help others that know less than I do (unless they are 'tards). unless they are on the opposing team.

In the time span of a month I can be all of them. But most of the time I'm Mr. N. It to Win and Mr. Humble.

But when some Mr. arrogant comes in the server I have to be Sir Asshole the First and prove that he isn't all that and a bag of Doritos.

LOL! Don't let Sorrow fool you. She is pretty deadly in online gaming!

And yes hp07 !!HOOAAH!! is correct. That was the name of the first server I ran in the first online game I ever played.

Nice to see what kind of personalities you all think you have in game. Wonder if your gaming buddies would agree?
