Default Samurai Experiments: Final Volume (for now)

For those of you new to "Samurai Experiments". I am purposely packing up all my stuff, and seeing how much of my life my PC can handle!

So far, it's been a very cool experience... My PC doubles as my TV, Stereo, DVD Player, video game machine, office and a lot of other stuff...

Part of the fun of Samurai Experiments is "What CAN'T my PC cover in my life". Here's week three without my stuff!

Well... for week three, I've packed all my furniture except for basically... my computer desk, a chair and a stand for my printer well... and my futon (what do you expect a Samurai to sleep on?)

This week has shown me the following:

1. ENTERTAINMENT

My computer chair isn't comfortable to try to watch TV in...

Verdict: I'm going to invest in a better computer chair... I like my PC more than my TV... however, I still need a bigger monitor regardless...

2. SOCIAL NEEDS

I kinda miss talking to actual people. I talked for about a half-hour with my neighbor about muscle cars (First time I've talked actually tallked to him since I moved in almost a year ago)... I may be a loner, but it's still nice to talk to an actual person without having to worry about my connection, spelling or censorship...

Verdict: People are still sociable beings... It'll take a couple more generations until we don't need each other any more... but I'm sure the life-like, robotic, sex-kitten "Virtual Wife V.10.092" (or her male counterpart "Virtual Husband") will solve these issues... while allowing a whole generation of sick and twisted people to act out their fantasies with someone who won't call the police, think you're a weirdo, worry about you accidently killing them because the rope is too tight, or tell his/her friends about what a phreak you are...

Also, abusive people can beat and scream at their "Virtual Spouse" all they want, without legal worries! Well... maybe your neighbor saying to shut the hell up 'cause she's trying to get "Virtual Husband" to clean the oven and do the dishes, and it's distracting to yell over the noise.

Also, if you whip them (or whatever) too hard... the replacement part sales would be great for the economy!

Technology may one day replace the need for human interaction (which could be a good thing actually after considering the above)... but it probably ain't gonna be this decade...

3. TIME

Computer time is at an all-time high... In between packing, I'm checking my E-mail, looking for information on new technologies, reading cartoons, surfin' Pimprig and checkin' my downloads.

I have to remind myself to get my ass out of my seat before my butt starts to take up more of the chair... Most chicks just don't dig lovehandles... and if you think they do, watch a movie with Jean Claude Vann Damme, or Sly Stallone where they're runnin' around half-naked... she's gonna want his body... she'll sleep with you... but only 'cause you're handy (uhhh... that pun was unintentional, I asure you).

VERDICT: I should probably pick up one of those electric muscle-stimulator thingies... I'm not sure what high voltage would do to my typing skills though.

Still, technology will probably never be as good as ol' fashioned exersize... with like... fresh air, and maybe some actual sweat.

4. PREDICTIONS

This will probably be the last "Samurai Experiments" for awhile... It's been over a month, and I've found out my computer can handle most of my basic needs to be educated, entertained, and fill a little of that social need.

I ended up buying a couple of cheap paperbacks 'cause my PC won't replace those, and I still have a couple of "Foxtrot" and "Dilbert" books lying around.

All in all, I have a feeling that when they introduce a way to get computers to handle our more basic needs, life will probably get easier... and maybe a little better in some ways...

but what will we lose in the process?
