Default Daily Disturbance Movie Reviews!

Hey folks!

IronSerif came up with a really awesome idea the other day and he asked me to help out on it (you'll understand why in a minute). Sometimes a DD writer can miss their posting day for various reasons and it seems kinda empty not to see something there. So, IronSerif came up with a kick butt idea.

If a DD writer is going to miss their posting day, he thought we ought to give you folks the chance to show off your writing skills. However, sometimes a DD writer isn't able to give much notification that they are going to miss their day so it would be hard to ask someone to write on demand. How do we make apple pie out of a little mud and a sprinkle of grass? By "banking" articles that you, the forum members, would like to submit, keeping them on file and dusting one off for a fill-in.

What do you write about?

Well, that's the problem. Something you write about today may not be seen for six months so writing about current topics is out the window. Or, something you write about today could be posted as early as tomorrow. You never know. That's why we want you to write about something that could be easily enjoyable today as it can be six months from now.

MOVIE REVIEWS!!!

(this is why he asked me to help.... )

If you'd like to write a movie review and/or a DVD review, simply follow the format below and submit it to IronSerif at ironserif@pcapex.com as a text attachment. IronSerif will keep the articles on file and use them on a periodic basis to fill in for a writer that is unable to meet their posting day. He'll try to give you a heads up if he can but don't demand it. Oh, and one final thing. All movie reviews submitted to IronSerif become the property of PimpRig.com. Compensation, monetary and/or otherwise, will not be given, rendered, or bestowed upon the author or a beneficiary of their designation. In other words, you submit an article, it becomes ours.

I'll be submitting a DVD review next Monday as my DD article to give you folks an idea.

Rob

FORMAT
__________________________________________________ ____________________________

Movie Review Template

Intro

- Introduce the movie. Include the year made, the director, producer, main actors, movie company, and last but not least, genre in acceptable order. Doesn't have to be all one sentence but at least mentioned.
i.e., This week I'll be taking a look at the 2005 suprise action-drama from Warner Brothers, "Constantine", starring Keneau Reeves and Rachel Wise, directed by Francis Lawrence, and produced by Gilbert Adler and Michael Aguilar.
- Does it look to be a blockbuster or just another film?
- What are your expectations?

Background

- Give some background on the movie, whether it's a remake of an earlier film, a comic book adaptation, a sequel, or a new script.
- Give a light summary of the movie but don't give away the ending.
- Big budget or filmed on a shoestring and a prayer?

Acting ability

- How were the actors in this movie? Were they believable? Did they "fit" the role or would someone else be more suited for the role?
- How does this film fit in with the actor's career? Is this a duplicate role that they played before (i.e., Clint Eastwood made how many cowboy movies?) or else is this a departure from the norm (i.e., Christopher Walken dancing in the Fatboy Slim video)?

Cinematography/Special Effects

- Was special lighting and/or effects used to create this film? A good example would be "Sin City".
- Did it add to the film or did it just totally kill it? A good example is the insertion of Jabba the Hut in the first Star Wars film (Episode IV). Personally, it killed it for me.
- Did it add or take away from the overall film.

DVD Special Features

- If you are reviewing a DVD, what are some of the features that are included on it? (You can find a good list of features for each DVD at Amazon.com)
- Is it the theatrical release or is it an extended version? If it's an extended version, is the extra scenes add or subtract from the film?
- Are there any "Easter Eggs" on the DVD? Hidden features we might want to check out?

Summary

- Did you like the movie and would it appeal to a specific demographic or did they finally find the cure for insomnia?
- Would you recommend it to a friend or would you go see it again?
- Is this one set up to be a big hit or a big miss?

hey rob what about also throwing in cd/music reviews too? i know that im probably not qualified to write about movies (i thought the new star wars was decent, everyone else says the acting sucked but it looks the same as any other acting to me... i cant tell the difference really...) but i sure could write a review on a cd. just a thought, add a little more diversity. theres also a lot of great music/concert dvd's out there that could be written about as well

Cool idea! I'll have to watch for more on this. I love movies. I haven't been to too many lately. I just haven't had the time. It's an interesting thought though, since alot of people seem to like going to the movies. I just hate the concession stand $5 for a soda, geez!

I really think this is a good idea.
I am going to write a review of the next movie I see.
I will see what I can come up with.

If the review _may_ post anywhere from 1 week to 6 months out, wouldn't it be better to confine this idea to dvd's? For instance, if you want to go really @nal about it, not only the review of the movie but the difference between the regular dvd vs. special edition dvd vs. anniversary edition dvd vs. soopah gold deluxe edition ad nauseum.

Only reason is because if it's a new release movie that the majority of PR members want to see anyway, there will be (as a given) between 1-4 threads about the pre-release info, release, informal reviews (it blows/its great/meh, wait for the dvd), and occasional spoilers.

That's not a bad idea man...this is something we do have to give some thought though and we have to see how much interest the PR members have in writing CD/live concert reviews.

If you want, I would say go ahead and work on one and then shoot it over to me and the Daily Disturbance staff will take a peak at it and we'll see where we can go from there.

Sound good?

That definitely is a good point. Since this whole DD movie reviews idea is fairly new, we're going to have to come up with some sort of system of the actual order we post these reviews.

I'm sure it wouldn't be a good idea to post a review of the theatrical release of "Stealth" 5 months later when it has already been released on DVD.

The DD staff is currently discussing this issue in great depth, so when we come up with something we'll let everyone know

Reminds me of the Chapelle sketch "What if the internet was a real place". Damn funny stuff.
