| The Mack Daddy | I will be honest, a ton of bricks fell on me other day and I am still in shock about. Numb, confused, lost is just a few words that come to mind. Anyway I thought that I might go back on last weeks post and maybe show some ideas of what I was getting at. Josef Albers did a lot with color theory and how colors play against each other. http://images.amazon.com/images/P/03...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg That is the cover of a book that tells about his theory and what he was trying to do. Pick it up if you are interested in color, I will be honest some even goes over my head but this is what I was wanting to show. On the cover the tan smaller block of color is the same. But look at what happens to it when put aside the orange, it becomes more tan / brown. Next to the blue it becomes more golden. Reason being is the yellow that is in the orange and yellow section cancels out the yellow in the tan/golden cube. There are no yellow hues in the blues so it brings out more yellow. Now this does not just apply to these colors but all. What he did for finding out what colors do what against was use construction paper. We can do the same when working with our paint and modding. Just because we think yellow should go someplace, sometimes a yellow with more brown or golden tones might look better. In our mind we think of a color is being pure and it locks in our head that it’s the color to be used no matter what. But one of these “off†colors could bring in more interest after it’s done with. Have some fun grab some construction paper and work out your design with the colors you wanted to use. Then mix it up some use something that is along or has a hint of color that you wanted to use and see if it might work out a little better. http://images.google.com/images?q=Josef+Albers+&svnum=10&hl=en&lr=&safe=off&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US fficial_s&start=0&sa=NThat is the link to some of his work. If you find it interesting try to look more at the pieces done with squares. See what colors are being used and how they interact with others. Have a good week everyone.

| The Mack Daddy | the tan is the same color but takes on a different color quality when up againest different colors. If the tan was againest a black it would look brighter, againest white more earthy and brown. The yellow and orange will cancle out the yellow hues of the tan, while the blues will bring out more yellow. Reason being because the blues have no yellow mixed in.

| Sir Knight of Spamalot | So what you saying is, cover a whole case with construction paper and see what it looks like? thats not a bad idea really, except construction paper is flate. Imigine a whole case down with consruction paper, that would be more like art....then again..isnt modding art within itself? Taking an old busted up computer, and turning it into something beautiful?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | flounder Color theory was one of the things I studied in college. The below pictured book goes into the very same thing you mention above. Itten, The Elements of Color. (Can't believe I still have this book!) It is the color system of Johannes Itten. Spent many classes playing with colors and shapes to learn how that can be used in art. Cutting out construction paper, mixing paints, and shapes as well. One of the best things is that you can really play up or down size by implenting colors. This would be handy inparticular to a case mod that was a small scale, but you wanted to make it appear larger. Or in the reverse to minimise something you wanted to hide. Yet another excellent addition to this series! |
