| Granted the following guide may be of limited interest... so I'll throw you all a bone at the end. I just upgraded to a Palm Treo 650. Man, is this thing SCHWEEET! It does everything short of wiping for you in the bathroom. But since I'm a cheapass, I didn't opt for the internet connectivity option. So because of this, if I want to install additional MIDI ring tones, I have to jump through all sorts of hoops (which Palm has not fully described how to do), so to help any of you out who are looking for guidance, here is a step by step guide on how to install MIDI ringtones via SD card. 1. Either plug your card into the reader attached to your computer (or via Softick Export program on the Palm) so you can write directly to the card as a flash drive. 2. Create a folder called MIDI 3. Copy your *.mid file to this directory. 4. Open M$Word (or Lotus, etc...) 5. In the new file, create a hyperlink called "Link" 6. Edit the hyperlink to point to "MIDI/filename.mid" where filename is the actual name of the file in the MIDI folder from step #3 7. Save file as a HTM document (midi.htm) 8. Copy HTM document to root directory of SD Card. 9. Install card into palm if it isn't already there. 10. Open web browser WITHOUT connecting to internet or network. 11. In the address bar, type "file:///midi.htm" without the quotes 12. Click on the hyperlink that now shows on your screen. 13. Follow prompts to install MIDI file as a ring tone. 14. To install additional files, simply edit the hyperlink as described in step #6 to point to the new file. Voila and now for something completely different...
Apparently, some of the things that happen in Vegas don't stay in Vegas. Note to self: When robbing ANYWHERE, do not fill out application with real name, do not write hold-up note on deposit slip from checkbook, remove license plate from car before getting picture taken, wear mask. Negatives I found from upgrading from my Zire 71: After learning grafitti, not having the ability to do the slash commands is an adjustment. (You can, but you have to go through multiple keys, so it's not a shortcut any longer) There are no shortcuts that you can easily define to bulk insert text (except in the SMS program). The speaker / sound output is too loud when playing MP3s. I have the volume set at the absolute lowest setting, and it is a touch too loud for me. Voice dialing is not included software, and there is bug in the implementation of Bluetooth headsets not working with any voice software (but you have to have one of those, so I'm not worried yet) Positives: The camera is better and can even take short movies. (now the trick is convincing the wife to star in my next production, but I digress) The speaker phone is clearly audible for anyone sitting around a table. The phone interacts with the contact list easily. Typing on the QWERTY keyboard works nicely. Ability to surf entire net is nice (if you pay for it) as opposed to limited sites on web enabled cell phones. Voice software can be set to operate any application, not just phone. On the whole, it is like a scaled down laptop. It is a most excellent phone! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
