Well gang... nothing puts a frown on my face and murder in my heart like having to deal with some idiot hacker's virus.

I spent this morning (between 2AM and 4AM this morning) running scans and checking keys in my registry. After doing a little research, here's what I've found out...

W32.Kwbot.C.Worm

Click on the virus name to get the skinny (info) from Symantec's virus definitions

This worm is kind of a pain in the ass. I'm lucky enough to have had Norton catch it... but it doesn't remove it unless you're in safe mode... also, if you don't run a full restart (ie going directly to safe mode), it doesn't seem to infect your registry.

Here's the real kicker... this worm ONLY infects Kazaa and Imesh users.

If I were the paranoid type, I'd be thinking someone was hired for this little job...

There is another virus that is running rampant on Kazaa... Norton Antivirus has saved my butt repeatedly from getting an annoying peice of work called the:

W32.hllp.Handy
Again just click the virus name for Norton's take on it

Keeping your antivirus updated will lay the smack-down on this little bastard so it won't infect your system.

All in all... if you're busy on Kazaa... make sure you have your Antivirus WELL updated before you get going!

thanks for the info, how did you know that you had gotten that virus in the first place??

Norton detected it... unfortunately, it wouldn't remove it from it's location, nor would it quarantine it...

Hence my going to safe-mode to get it killed.

dude, thanx for the help man, my dad is all paranoid about kazaa, so he would have a field day if he found out that a virus got on my computer though kazaa!!

i got a nasty virus from kazaa about half a year ago and it changed every image, mp3, mpeg, avi to .vbs and it made the files unuseable and eventually spread to all 3 of my HD's at the time. I lost 100Gigs of stuff, no backup at all, stupid me. **** I HATE THEM BASTARDS. I now got 6 drives /w a 120GB WD as a backup.
