| Thought I would let you guys know a bit about myself before I get to the good stuff- (Overclocking) and how I ended up writing for PimpRig I live in the Detoit area of Michigan, home to the Motor City and Woodward Avenue, and as far as I am concerned, the Birthplace of Street Racing! I was born and raised here..so Hot Rodding has always been in my blood, so why not turn that experience towards computing? My father was a teacher, and love all things mechanical and electronic, and passed that fascination on to me from a very early age. I started off helping him work on cars by holding the flashlight and chasing tools as far back as I can remember, I was his little helper...and was often noted for saying things like "Me do that" when it came to any task at hand, weather or not I could actually do the job. As I got older, I learned all I could from my father, he had much to teach me. He was in the Air Force, and repaired Radar Sytems just after the end of the Korean War. He took his GI Bill, got a Masters Degree and began teaching in Detroit, eventually opening up a business teaching the Handicapped to drive. He also used to race cars, I remember seeing his 56 Vette (That he had bought new) as a child, it had a 4 spd with a pontiac rear end (Quick gear changes and strong) with 5.13 gears...and a wicked bored and stroked 421 Pontiac (482Ci) Over the years he had realy built it up... GMC 8-71 Blower, Fuel Injection, Magneto, Roller Cam, hand ported heads, he even made his own set of large tube headers...quite a nasty Street Machine for the late sixties/early seventies! We are talking high 9 second Quartermile times on slicks..almost unheard of for that time period for something that could be driven regularly on the street when he popped in some 3.08 or 4.11's gears He told me stories of Woodward Avenue, how the Factory guys would unload there latest creation off a truck...and he'd send it right back with it's tail between it's legs! I remember seeing pictures of his Dragsters, his last one actually made a small blurb in Hot Rod magazine for having the largest Big Block chevy at the time..over 540 Cubic Inches! The reason I have spent so much time talking about him, is because he inspired me, he shaped me into what I have become today. I went into the Air Force after graduating high school, I was not realy enjoying the working conditions in Auto Body shops. I enlisted in the Air Force, something my Father said I would never regret...and never have. I went to Tech School to be a Jet Engine Mechanic and worked on F-4's and F-16's, later I recieved training in Hydraulic Systems and also as a Crew Chief...I got to see and work on pretty amazing equipment to say the least! After my four years were up, I got a job at Williams International (Makers of Cruise Missle and TomaHawk Engines) as a tech doing R&D and Dyno work..it only lasted a year, the 1st Gulf War ended and we lost all our Contracts...I realy loved that Job! I ended up finding a job at TRW, they made Crash Sensors for Air Bags, with high speed automated equipment..sporting the latest 486's and Windows 95 on some of them! We eventually got a Laser Welder.. that was some very high tech stuff for 1993...and I got to repair it! EDIT: It was brought to my attention (Iateronmly) that windows 95 was not possible to have in 93....that is true, we only had Windows 3.1 and DOS when I started there, we upgraded to a beta version of 95 on some equipment in late 94/early95 After 5 years I was laid off due to new technology making the mechanical style we made obsolete, and they never perfected a new electronic version. General Motors proving grounds is where I ended up next (1997) wrenching on everything from a Ecotec 4cyl to the 400HP LS-2, wich just went into prodution recently on the 05 Vette. I was like a kid in the candy store, I worked second shift..and my favorite thing was a little late night racing on the old Truck Loop.. We got to play with everything from Sabb Turbo Convertibles to Z06 Vettes with modified 450+ HP engines...There was even a Suburban with a 600HP all Aluminum Lingenfelter engine Another lay off when the economy went south resulted in my current job at Ford Dearborn Proving Grounds. I work in the Safety Labs, building Anthropomorphic Test Devices (Crash Test Dummies) They are loaded with all kinds of instruments for collecting Data.. Accelerometers, Load Cells, String Pots..etc, One of the new ones we just got in looks the like the Terminator without all it's skin on! Well..there you have it, It was only natural for me to get into computers, once a friend of mine showed me a little game called Quake on his brand new Pentium 150MHZ with a Monster 3-D add on card! But that is another story all together... The $SOLID$ Garage is now officially open! ![]() Last edited by $SOLID$ Necro; 07-November-04 at 09:56 PM.. | ||

How did you end up there? aren't you a Civilian CFB Cold Lake? I take it that is in Canada? I went to Red Flag and Green Flag at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, I don't know if that is the same type of thing though. They had all kinds of planes from around the Globe for massive war games, the British Tornado's were the ones I remember seeing the most...they were pretty sweet! ![]() I was almost given an incentive ride for finding a faulty turbine blade and saved it from disaster on a F-4 Phantom (Outside of a normal inspections, it just caught my eye) Unfortunately I was the one of 3 who had to remove the engine and replace it, we had to return home before I got my chance This is what I would have gotten a ride in... ![]() I did get a peak into a Secret Military Musem there, full of Soviet aircraft we had collected from the 50's and 60's!!! Oh and BTW, the War Room I got to see almost looked like it was right out of that movie "War Games" with a huge display of the on going battles in real time ![]() Last edited by $SOLID$ Necro; 08-November-04 at 03:23 AM.. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| If i am civilian, people must wonder why I am always wearing the blue suit with gold trim ........... Nope, i am Captain Putwig. Maple flag is an annual, multi-national tactical fighter exercise held right here at CFB Cold Lake. I thought you may have been at some point. By the way, we are indeed in Canada. Northern Alberta to be precise. | ||

All this time..I never knew *Salutes* Maple Flag does sound alot like our Red and Green Flag, We were usually too busy to realy to get to talk much unfortunately. Ark..I am not too worried, this was going on almost 20 years ago, I think they have upgrade a bit since then, and the cold war is long over ![]() Last edited by $SOLID$ Necro; 08-November-04 at 03:28 AM..
