Default Have Dremel - Will Travel

I'd like you to take a look at this dremel. Balance is excellent, this speed selector responds to pressure of 1 ounce. This dremel was hand crafted to my specifications. I rarely plug it in unless I intend to use it.

(If you don't get the above please visit www.hgwt.com if you did get it, you're old as dirt. )

My dremel actually isn't a dremel, but Dremel is like Kleenex, Fridge, and others where one name applies to all manufacturers. I may never have completed a case that satisfies me, but heck, this tool that is a jack of all trades and master of none is definately different. Let me tell you a little bit about this "customized" wonder tool manufactured by cheap labor in some other nation and sold by Sears (and to this day Sears never tells us where Robuck ran off with the quality).

It started off standard issue: red case, basic rotory tool with it's black plastic housing with standard logos and warning stickers, assorted bits and pieces that promised many uses... and constant replacement. For any of you military folks - remember how everyone showed up to Bootcamp a rainbow of different colors and style but ended up leaving all the same? At lest mine seems to have taken the exact opposite route.

Lets me first tell you about my first mod to this tool born from the idea of a crazed machinist on his stay at Bedlam. I was cutting a window and grinding it clean on a day I recall being -10 outside minding my own business. It decided it had enough of my medium speeding it, it wanted the job done so it could sit and enjoy it's cozy 65 degree storage area. All of a sudden with my face in the wrong place, it's speed selector burned out and went full tilt boogie and had a cutting disc blow up in my face. Wouldn't have been such a shocking experience I s'pose if I was wearing safetly glasses... just gotta find a pair that doesn't fog up at -10.

Anyways - as Spc. Force Bob once said "hers a difrn setting than 35k all mine says is 35k and below that it just says pussy speed..."

Also this tool shows my taste in color/paint. The paint design could almost be called camo, if it wasn't for the Duplicolor silver/green in there ruining the effect. I better not ever commit a crime and leave this sucker sitting around either, it's got perfect impressions of all digits in that paint. Actually as I stare at it, maybe I'll paint my next case the same way. I'll just defend it and call it modern art or some such rubbish. It'll be unique.

The shank looks like a wild animal that lives acrost the way got ahold of it. Gnawed it up right well. Heck, the entire thing looks like it's been used as a chew toy by a bear who then became angry with it threw it in the river and then proceeded to bury it. But in reality I lost the proper tool and have been using vice grips on it for over a year now to switch bits. Dropped it in the mud and muck outside once or twice too. Mud no longer flys out of it on start up though which I think is a good sign.

So what types of interesting things have you done to your rotory tools? Or like that infamous car commercial poses the question - does your dremel match you?

Lol, nice story bro!
I haven't done too much with my Dremel (which is a Dremel) just yet as it is relatively new.

That first Dremmel that smoked itself to "Display Item Only" status...I knew that my heavy welding gloves were keeping some of the 'feel' from my hands...Shoulda realized it was the 1000 degrees that wasn't getting through...Ahh yes the smell of seized stainless @35,ooo RPM and carbon brushes that turned to dust those last few labored Revolutions, right before the big blue arc sent it to Dremmel heaven...
