| Direct Cool Hoe | Chillin' round the block... This weeks piece will cover what I think is the highlight of the entire project. As most of you know by now, I have been reffered to as a little mental, mad, crazy, ballzy and even wacked. To me it's just another day in the life of Zennzzo. I guess it is a bit uncoventional at times. Mixing Methanol and water for coolant isn't something you hear of, on a daily basis. Chilling that same concoktion to an arctic -40c isn't happening in every case either. You probably have figured out by now that I have got a mad wacked idea of an Overclock up my sleeve. Well you are absolutly correct. I am going all out to see just what I can squeeze out of the 754 platform. All the coolant, from the other side of the moon, isn't going to do squat unless it is applied to the CPU in such a fashion, to get the most out of that chilly temp. What you are about to see is a conglomeration of all the best liquid cooling solutions that I have personally built or used. The first Direct Die block I built, was a winner in it's own right. It was my madien voyage into the world of extreme cooling. It worked well, but had a very, very permanent mounting system. Kevlar laminates and 3M 5200 adheasive, have "never to be removed again" written all over it. The second model I built, addressed that issue, and a system of 2 0-rings was employeed and a set of rails that bolted through the motherboard. They applied enough down pressure to "rainbow" the stoutest of backing plates. Overkill at it's finest, no doubt, but it had zero chance of leaking. The block was also made from a 4 inch cube of solid cast acrylic. Hand tooled with a rotary grinder and hand finnished to an Icy apearence. We have seen alot of changes in the configuration of extreme cooling blocks. Enter one, Head design engineer, and all around rightous dood ROKK, aka CPUKiller who has single handedly changed the lineup of the most used H20 cooling blocks for PCs.DangerDen. He brought us RBX, TDX. S-TDX adjustable nozzels, as well as the most radical GPU/Memory block you can get for the 6800's His design details helped me to better understand impingent cooling. He opened my eyes to the geometrics available in a given space. We have discused cooling concepts and he has inspired me to do more homework. I have racked my brain to include everything i have learned to date to be esential in a good block. Of course I have fashioned it with my trademark wackness. To start with the block is to be milled once again, from clear cast acrylic. It has two seperate parts that will be Zenzobonded after the mill work is done. The mounting will be simplistic and floating to ensure that the block will self center on the CPU. A diamond/oval shaped .25" polished aluminum plate. Insulated on the underside and oh such total pimpness. There will be two 0-rings that take care of sealing. One to the outside edge of the IHS and the second one, 2mm just inboard of that same edge. The nozzle that is 1mm off the face of the IHS, will have 17- 2mm holes that progress from the center out in a starburst pattern. There will be a set of matching "diviots" milled into the IHS presicely opposite the 2mm holes in the nozzle. This will provide for a greater surface area on the IHS and create the proven turbulence needed for optimal heat transfer. (Inspired by a conversation had by ROKK & myself pertaining to a "shower" type nozzle...thanx ROKK) From there, the coolant will move outward into a channel that is ported to a topside chamber for release through the outlet barb. (hi-flow, .50", 0-ringed 9/16"-18...thankx ROKK, again) I would like to thank SpecialBlend218 for his excellent CAD skillz, as well as his ability to translate my "cyber-virtual-italliano": descriptions and "typobonics" in assisting to get my Wacked crazy idea into a 3-D drawing that he can write a CNC program from. Kudos Brother, I know it has been tough. And of course to ROKK aka CPUKiller for the inspiration and setting the bar high enough to challenge my old sleepy ass into going Pimprig Xtreme. ROKK has also provided my project with the much needed TYGON R-3606, a mile of that stuff gets expensive. He also saw to some barbs and the esential closed-cell neoprene, that will be used for insulation against the frost that -40C coolant temps produce. Thankx Brother you know I give you and DangerDen Mad Love and Xtreme props for a job well done. Thank you Very much for keeping me in the Loop... NoSlak, haven't forgotten you Brother, We'll have a winner here, count on it. Clear out a spot for your copy of this chiller too ![]() Well there you have it... the third edition of the DirectDie cooling block...Temps and technology from the "Dark Arts" side of the moon, wacked as always...ZENNZZO style... ~~~~~ o ~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~ o ~~~~~ | |

| For those of you who have seen a pic of Zenzz, cant you imagine him in a basement screaming "ITS ALIVE!" and then following that with maniacal laughter. Cant wait to see how it all turns out. After all, he is the one that built my WC setup that after a countless hours of Doom3 or Star Wars: Battlefront keeps my rig at a nice 29c. | ||

| heh, glad i finaly get to read his plans, on msn one night he was sending me those pics of the block designs faster thatn i could accept them, and then all that jibberish written on the drawings...lol. you probalby got liquid cooled goodness flowin in your veins man. | ||

Not me..that is too tall an order. I have a better chance at being the next Lemieux or Gretzky. The man has become a legend and he is still pushing the envelope! Mad props and much respect Zennzzo you are one of a kind! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
