| Well gang, there's a REAL good chance I'm getting promoted. I'm shifting focus from sales, back into tech services. Good stuff... What it means to me is I'll be making a little more for all those projects I'd really love to get handled (like I'd really like to upgrade my own computer). What it means to PR means I'll probably be around more, and I've already got a ton of new stories from the two days I've been "cross training" for that department. TOP FIVE: CUSTOMERS (I know it's a short list... but coming soon: "The Adventures of DarkSamurai". A startling look at one man's journey into the realms of the misinformed). 1. As it seems most of the functions of my new position will involve dealing with returned merchandise, I need to make sure all the parts are present... even if it looks like the box hasn't been opened. I always carry a knife on me, so I whip it out, flip the blade up and open the box. The gal looks me dead in the eyes and asks, "Do the feds know you're carrying that?" I responded, "Uhh, Ma'am. I'm not getting on a plane." I had to bite back my original response, "Yes, I had to register this three-inch-blade with the FBI in a secret CIA location so I could cut up cardboard boxes with impunity..." 2. "I bought a (cheap-ass no-namer brand) computer... it won't play my games. Why not?" "Gee... I wonder. Maybe if you'd spent an extra hundred bucks for a GAMING machine, it would have been a better idea." 3. Me: "What kind of computer do you have?" Customer: "It's Windows XP." 4. Me: "What operating system do you have?" Customer: "I don't know... I never looked at it." Me: "how long have you had it?" Customer: "Couple years now." Me: "Couple of years?" Customer: "Like four or five." Me: "Does it say "Windows" when it comes up." Customer: "Yeah." Me: "Does it say "Windows 98"?" Customer: "Yes." Me: "Then you have Windows 98." 5. This one is from when I was still in sales. Happened like last month, but it was so painful, I have to repeat it. Customer: "I'd like to buy an AGP port..." Me: "Uhh, that usually comes as part of your motherboard." Customer: "Well, I've been told I need one, so where do I find one" (getting pissy) Me: "Sir, we don't sell them seperately, and you'd literally have to have someone solder it in and I don't think that..." Customer: "Fine, I know someone I can pay to solder one in." (turns around and storms off). Anyway, see ya'll around. | ||
