| Direct Cool Hoe | Gramma, This one is for you... Well it's a Saturday morning bright sunshine beaming into the porch, and who is sitting there in her recliner, with fatty patty the round tabby in her lap? Why it's the most calm and peaceful, loving person I know. It's Granny!! 93 years young and she will find good in everything she comes across...Bet! The warden and I are doing our routine Sat AM, go to town trip. Checking and rechecking the list of stuff to do. Granny has now commenced with her weekly, never missed phone conversation with her favorite daughter Donna Mae. Donna Mae travels a motorhome caravan from the Pacific Northwest all the way to Arizona, car in tow. She doesn't do the rainy seasons anymore, she's had enough. As we walked out the door, I seen the happiness she recieves when she gets to chat about the latest who, what and where... Not missing anything, she acknowledges our passing with a nod and her sweet line "Have fun! see ya when ya get back"... Granny is as sharp as anybody I've seen anywhere. She has probably forgot, in her 93 years, more facts than I'll ever know. She has this way about her, almost as if she knows a little something extra, something that is good, and it gives her tired old bones the drive to carry on one more day. She is always quite thankfull for each and every breath she takes. Something I take for granted, and shouldn't. Gramma has seen a bunch in her day. We have sat and had talks about everthing I could come up with. It's very easy to bare your soul to her, she'll never ever pass judgment. She says "that's just another road to take, to get to the same place". Some roads are shorter, longer, bumpier, smoother. I've seen her grin and say to me, "What would you do for excitement, if your road was always so smooth". Kinda gives you that feeling, that everything is gonna be OK today. And if all that ails this kind woman of 93, doesn't get her down... I got no excuse. We were in town for our usual amount of time. Did a little garage sale loop, and basically enjoyed our time in town away from the "virtual security blanket" (wink wink). Never to forget a hunk of chocolate, for Granny, I just love the way it tickels her when we bring her back something special from town. "Oh for me? why thank you for thinking of me," She'd say... Gives ya that clean inside feeling knowing a simple thought genuinely brings her joy. She has helped her share of strays, and grandkids and friends of grandkids. All she needs in return is to see some results of her helping. In my book that's a small price to pay for the wisdom and calm, understanding love she shares. I'm glad that we had the opportunity to be here for her. She deserves not to be passed off as old and "not with it". She can appreciate the things you and I find coolness in. You ought to hear the "Pimp ride" stories she can tell...Just because the suspension was nil, and the spoked wheels were wood, and the tires wern't actually tires, they were hand forged of steel, by the tire and wheel shop named "Blacksmith" The very same enjoyment and pride was there. She's cool. This lady has been around before computers were a reality, period, TV even!. Back when cell phones were 2 cans and a string. Seen lots of changes in technology, and she'll even discuss how it changed us as a society!. Heavy stuff there Granny. When we got back from town about 7-7:30 we pull in and we plan for what to take in first and try to remember what we forgot to get while we were out. You know you always do. The warden and I make a game of it. Object being the most important, and forgotten completely item remembered in the driveway secures you a "don't have to pack stuff in card". Call me loser, but she seems to win more often than not...Conspiracy? hmmmm. After we get the days haul in the house, I rummage through the bags looking to find the Almond Rocca that I know Grannys' gonna wanna share. Candy in hand, I knock on her door, no response. hmmm I go out back where she has been known to don her shorts, grab a couple of pillows and soak up the rays...No Granny... OMG I'm thinking the worse now, and I'm Yelling G R A M M A!! running to see where she could be... Grama has fought off 3 sets of cateracks and has about 10% of her vision left, it's not like she is gonna be far from her favorite spots in the house. I look at the warden and we both are near tears. Well after calling and freaking out everybody who would answer their phone with "we can't find Granny anywhere" we locate her. She is at the hospital and the ride she got was a rig, with a bunch of lights on it. Evidently, the attitude she has about, I can still do it. I don't need help, I have managed all these years so far, caught up with her. She said she was standing in the kitchen, of course on the hard floor and her knee just quit working, and I tipped over. Well those old bones don't take to crashing on the hard floor so well... Granny down busted femur. Well as luck would have it, the wardens cousin who was there at the time hears the ka thump and that sweet voice beconing... Chris? Now chris has got to have the coolest head I know. As he explains it, He's wanting to call 911 like yesterday, and Granny with a now broke wheel, Is calling for "just a second I'll be alright" play... A calm discussion insues, Chris makes sure she can move her arms and legs, no problem there. He makes sure she has no appearent reason not to right this Sweet Granny of ours. Well as I understand it, that's when this trooper, of all things good, agrees to take the ride with all the lights... News this AM, they were going to put the Granny to sleep and repair her wheel. I been around a few hospitals and injuries, and this wasn't what I wanted to hear... So nervously I modded the time away, not my usual zonned in, "this is gonna be the trickest" kind either. More like botch a simple drill and tap to accept Hi-flow fittings mod, on my GPU block even. Then I settled into what I'll call "nervous acrylic, try this and see if it works" mod... It did, heh heh heh, Thanks Granny, We were pullin' for each other! I just know it. We Just got off the phone with her, and Man, does she sound Happy. She said "thank you for all the prayers", first off, then she said,"there must have been a bunch, cause I don't even feel sick at all". And ya gotta love this one... "now I know why so many people get hooked on drugs" followed with her usual kind and loving wisdom... "I bet the down side to this, really isn't worth it". No Gramma, It sure ain't , and we all Love you and are glad to see you're still here to enrich our lives. We'll be visiting you,in a little different place for a bit, But I'm sure it will be every bit as cool.. .Well there you have it... Enlightened Grammas, Patched and reloaded, and lovin' every minute of it...ZENNZZO style! Glad they fixed your wheel. WE LOVE YA GRAMMA! get well soon... love from Ben & Wendy | |
