Default Branching out...

Yes, it's more goodness from Kayin, about the modding world...

I'm looking at console modding. See, we sell a lot to gamers, and lots of them actually play everything on earth that plays games (imagine that...)

So, I'm gonna start making console mods and selling them. It's cheaper than a new case all the time. Especially with my new case...

But, I think it's time we looked at the XboX modding community a little more closely, and opened our arms to them. A lot of them could benefit from our skills as modders, and if nothing else, a new idea from time to time is great.

So, for me, I'm planning a windowed PS1 for the shop, and seeing how it goes from there. Maybe we'll find a new market.

I'm short for time, so I'll just open this up for you guys to throw me some suggestions. What would you guys do? Maybe I'll build one or more...

I painted my dreamcast before it died, red and black with a blue LED. I highly recommend replacing LEDs, using vinyl dye, and keeping the designs simple. Just get a nice rainbow of colors going, use Crayola as an example.

I just finished my Xbox mod. Didn't do a whole lot though. I painted the top X a red that fades to black. I took the power button out of the front and filled the hole with bondo. Then I put a new power button in my controller.

Should check out TkySak (think thats his correct name) he has done several Xbox mods. He would be the man to ask questions too.

Just search around some.
Theres been alot mods that are common place, and alot of aftermarket replacement parts available now.

Maybe try a few consoles with the easier typical mods, and see if you have the market around to turn a profit.
I'd personally just go all out on an xbox or PS2 for turning heads (keeping track of time & cost for each mod) , and make individual bids for people that are interested in buying similar.

I get the mini PS1s for 30 bucks used. At that price...

Ya get the point. It's just to gauge the want for them in the market before we go all out.

The little PS1's are so cute, I could see blue lighting in one.

umm.. DE, hate to break ur heart, but they made them slot-load for a reason.. during testing, they had tried a standard top-load design, and the disc speed actually threw the disc off the spindle, and in some cases, caused the hatch to fly open..

Lightbulb I wonder....

Several people have made console mods by changing the case the console came in originally.

I wonder if there is a market for a whole new case with guts from a PS1, PS2, XBox...

Perhaps with clever engineering, any guts could fit in this same case.

And then you could do color schemes on top of a standard, aluminum platform instead of vinyl dye jobs on XBoxs, vinyl dye jobs on PS2s, etc.

Did this make any sense

You could always try selling modded xbox and gamecude controllers for use with their respective ocnsoles and a PC -i know full well that the xbox one is possible, but ive only heard rumors on the gamecube.

HELL! you could be the first every supplier of a WATER COOLED XBOX . The selling potential would be HUUUOWWGE. (im thinking small scale water cooling of course).

Or if that proves to be a bit touch an go, a silent zalman heatpiped xbox? no more fans! there also the linux legue on xboxes...although my knowledge is simply..yes it can be done

EDIT: well looks like im late again, HardOCP has got a good setup for it, or you can just google it for "water cooled xbox"

I'd e-bay them...you'd probably get a better price than in the shop...

I like the removal of the power button to the controller - kudos for that...my 1-year-old is fascinated by pressing it...makes for a frustrating time playing NBS Street Vol. 2

You could probably get a lot of parents to buy if you put in a keyed switch for the power.

Well when I took the power button off of the xbox and put it onto the controller, you can now only turn it on with that controller. That's almost like a keyed switch.....lol

It wouldn't be hard, especially if you have an older computer that had the power lock on them. You could just take that off and use it as your power switch on your xbox. Not the best key in the world, but it'd probably be enough.
