Default $uper$tock racing secrets

A serious approach to the "DARK ARTS" provided by a jet engine mechanic and super wrench my brothua $SOLID$

Most people can reach around 2.3GHZ+ with an average Barton 2500+, and some realy good ones can reach 2.5ghz or more, but they are very rare.

The "Mobile" line of AMD's are in a class all by themselves, when combined with a DFI Lan Party Rev B or DFI Infinity and good Memory,

You have the makings of a "Super Stock" Benchmark racer that will run 2.6ghz or more with 520FSB speeds using BOX STOCK parts!!!

This is my method I call "Mapping" where I measure all the settings at different speeds to find that "Magic" combo I write all my settings down for future reference, plus pass/fail results.

Memory, Finding the Max FSB:
Starting from a known stable FSB speed (Like 400) with loose timings between CAS 2.5-4-4-7 to 3-4-4-8, raise your FSB 2 Mhz at a time, until till you start failing MEM test.
Then once you know your maximum speed, you test at different speeds with the tighter timings, raising voltage helps your memory to run tighter timings.
The higher the FSB, the more voltage the NB chipset requires too, It takes 1.8v for mine to reach its max speed.

Adding a better NB cooler w/ fan, and Mossfett sinks will help with stabilty at increased voltages, most stock NB coolers don't like above 1.7 or 1.8v.
Using this method, I have found that my Geil DDR500 Platinum with 2.7v will run CAS 2-3-3-6 from 400 to 420FSB.With 2.9v and CAS 2.5-4-4-7, I can run 420 to 500FSB, and that CAS 3-4-4-8 with 3v is needed for 520FSB.

Raisng the multiplier: Max CPU speed
This is similar to the above, I set the memory at 200FSB or less and use the 10x multiplier.
Then raise the multiplier one notch (10.5) and use Prime 95 or Folding at home to test for stability.
If it fails, raise the CPU voltage .25v and re-test. Repeat until you reach your max CPU speed.
I need 1.7v for 2.3ghz, 1.75v for 2.4ghz, 1.8v for 2.5ghz and 1.9v for 2.6ghz

Putting it all together:

Once you know the limits of both CPU and memory, you can zero in on the best combo of Cpu Speed, Memory FSB and timings.
The least amount of voltage you can use to get a good balance will create a more stable machine.

I am using a DFI LAN Party Rev B, and Barton "Mobile" 2500+ and air cooling, with the above mentioned Geil DDR 500.

My current combo for daily use is 260x9.5 and CAS 3-4-4-8 memory timings. Cpu Voltage is 1.75v, Memory voltage is 3.0, and NB chipset voltage is 1.9.

For benchmarking I raise the CPU voltage, increase the multiplier to 10, drop the FSB to 259 and memory timing to 3-3-3-11 and run it at 2590MHZ.

My father used to say "It's all in the tune"

Well there you have it...SuperStock Racing secrets from my Brother $SOLID$ Thankx bro for the tunning tips...Kickin' here and watching him go fast ZENNZZO style

Awesome Zennzzo, You've been writing some great articles lately. I think you covered the important part of o/cing that some fail to acknowledge--tuning.

Thx Zenn

When I worked on Resistance Wlders for TRW assembly lines, we had to try all the spring pressures and voltage settings combinations and write down the weld strength results on a chart, the best welds would generally fall in a tight patttern, and then this was marked as the "Sweet Spot"

That way if we made a minor adjustment, we had the "Map" to refer to so we didn't have to retest again.

So I used what I had learned, made a chart, and now I don't have to guess wich CPU speeds need for voltage and memory timings
