Unhappy Dollar dollar coin, y'all...

OK, so now that the Mint has gotten their heads out of their posterior solid waste orafice and have made a dollar coin that is not the same size and color as a quarter, they are running radio adds saying how great they are, how much money it saves the gov't, that they last longer and are recyclable, etc...

I just gotta say, outstanding. So if they are so great, stop printing dollar bills already.

What's with the PR campaign? It has been my experience that if you give someone a choice of change or status quo, and there is no significant benefit to them, they will always avoid the change. (no pun intended)

Why waste our money to tell us that a different form of legal tender works... unless they are slowly working us up to the change.

I see only one area of concern with the elimination of the dollar bill: Coins and G-Strings don't mix well.

So to our members who live in the land of the loonie, what do you do in those situations?

Could it be that they'll reduce to a $2bill role, where you can still get them from the bank but for all other intents and purposes they're out of circulation?

I like paper money. Does not jingle as i walk, light, and easy to fit in wallet. Who keeps change on them anymore anyway. I just throw mine in a cup in my car. Also this means all snack/coke machines will have to be upgraded so i can get something. I don't think strippers will like having coins thrown at them.

Sweet! With all that money they are saving, I can't wait to get my refund!

I do wish they would get rid of the dang pennies.

It annoys me no end how people whine "But $1 coins are too HEAVY...."

If you're willing to personally pay for the privelege of notes that wear out in 18 months, be my guest, but I'm happier knowing that the dollar coin will likely last 30-40 years (notice how often you get 1965 quarters in circulation even still-- the first date not hoarded for silver).

And also, are you saying you can't handle heavy pockets as well as the Canadians ($1 and $2 coins)? The British (50p, one- and two-pound coins)? The Japanese (100 and 500 yen coins)? Are Americans that out of shape?

Although I wish the designs were a bit more inspiring, and less "floating head of some dead white guy." Bring back the 'Standing Liberty" (1916-1932) quarter design.

Does the new coin fold up in my wallet? No? Then I don't want it.

I guess I should just adopt the Canadian, British, and Japanese currancy as well. I am an American. I like V8's and paper money! I love my Carbon Footprint! I am a proud American. Are we perfect, well, no... But I think we give a lot to the world.

Get rid of the dang penny and keep the 1$ bill!

Just my opinion, no offence meant to anyone.

If u work a job where u get paid in tips, like say pizza delivery or waitress, then $40 in coins is a lot to be caring around. Would really suck to have to roll dollars to pay for gas.

On the plus side if someone tried to rob u just hit them with your sock filled with change.

I distinctly recall paying for my first ATX case with 30 Sacajawea dollars back in 2000.

Let's also bring these back, if paper money's so great:

From what I understand, they're still technically passable.

Supporting both incurs extra costs-- vending machines need both a note and a coin acceptor, tills need two slots, etc.

I'm going to miss the dollar bill, but as I don't tend to carry cash (literally, I carry enough actual money to buy a drink at a gas station, leave a tip for a waitress or possibly buy a couple of minor groceries if I'm really broke, or the place doesn't take plastic) it probably isn't a huge deal... One more coin in the ashtray of my car I guess.

I'm more for a society that doesn't use actual money and it all exists digitally. Makes more sense to me!

Couldn't they make the dollar bill out of woven aluminum for longer lasting flavor or something. There's got to be a better way the reverting back to coins. It would be a multi billion dollar change over just to make the nation coin ready.
Aside from that most likely they'll just get rid of the money slot all together and put in a card reader, I'm sure credit cards aren't going to get phased out any time soon.

Seems like a stupid change to me.

On the topic of exotic dancers, my friend dad said the quickest way to get kick out of a strip club when he was 21 was to heat up a quarter on the side of the stage with a lighter, then flip if over to the stripper. She would pick it up with... her lady bits, with a loud yelp and you where out of there. What an ass hat thing to do if you ask me.

I don't even carry cash anymore. I got sick of being asked for changer every day.

What they can do is print the notes on a thin plastic.

They do that in Australia, Romania, and at least some denominations in Mexico.

It's supposedly more durable, and adds some interesting design possibilities with tinted and clear windows.

Default Re: Dollar dollar coin, y'all...E PLURIBUS UNUM

I haven't carried cash since January when I transferred from one bank to another, For some reason when opening a new account, they won't wire transfer funds from one side of the street to the other, so I had to sneakernet it.

Aside from that if you won't take my visa card, I'm sorry I can do business elsewhere. (Although a lot of local resturants and ice cream shops that I hit up won't take my card, so in that case I carry my bucket of coins with me... I actually use coins more then.

I dunno I like the new dollar coins, to make them original, E PLURIBUS UNUM is printed along the side, and that makes for one heck or a hard phony. Like was said coins last so much longer, and are a gazillion times harder to fake.

I wouldn't miss the Bill, but I would love to see the tenth of a penny go...

Strippers will adapt. They could place a bucket at the end of the runway, and have men try to toss coins in from a distance, and if you make 3 in a row from X distance you get a free lapdance or something.
