| Well gang, I've moved and I just got back from Seattle. My new classes are pretty hard (Algebra and Java programming), so I'm kind of in a bind for the next 18 weeks while I finish three of my hardest classes (well, for me anyway... I'm pretty good at math, but past the basics of algebra, I would really rather not have to study it for class). Anyway, I may be in and out over the next few months... all this comes to a halt at the end of June, so I'll be back, hopefully with some new video game reviews and maybe a new rig, dangit! (I was about to build a new rig, but the move and the need for new snow tires on my Honda is stopping me). Anyway, on with the post! GAMER TYPES: Ever notice that not all gamers are created equal? We want to believe we're part of an elite type of gamer that can truly appreciate the types of games that we play. Here are a few of the types I've noticed: THE DUNGEON CRAWLER/ THE QUESTER: The DM/Quester is your WOW types, your AD&D buffs and your Everquest lost souls. These types tend to fanatically live their games, as they become a very important part of their lives. I've fallen into this RPGs and I've forgone sleep, food and work to achieve the next level (this used to be very true of the Final Fantasy series) THE FIRST PERSON SHOOTER: This is your DOOM or Unreal fanatic. These guys are always deeply immersed and found yelling to empty rooms, "Damn campers!". I've been a part of this crowd as well. Usually your best friends are fast metal or techno, scads of caffeine and a lot of aggression to burn. THE LAN-BOY: The LAN gamer is always looking to get hooked up. This person usually enjoys embarassing friends and family, usually with a healthy dose of system specs and skill. There seem to be two kinds of LAN gamers, those who bring full towers and their big ol' monitor, or the other type of LAN gamer that tends to bring the smallest damn machine with them that still has decent specs. This can be the size of a post-card with a video card sticking out of it... THE ASSHAT: This is the guy who finds nothing better than fracking up your killing sprees or messing up your scores in someway. He's also the guy who laughs, "So what?" when you brag about your best score, and then proceeds to roll off the scores he's achieved, which can be hard to verify depending on the type of asshat... THE GRAPHICS SNOB: This is the guy who would turn his nose up any game that could run on a GeForce 4 card. Great games come and go, but the graphics are what matter. THE POOR GAMER: This is the guy who has beat every game he has, and can't name a "new" game that came out in the last six months (or longer) due to pathetic system stats. I think we've all been here (I'm there now)... ANYWAY, there are more... but I have to write an accounting program in Java for my homework assignment, so I better get cooking... ![]() | ||

| What about the TKer? Ive seen @$$ hats on Public servers that turn against their team and kill everyone. In turn, you or someone has to kill that person and then That Kill Goes against you and with most of your Team gone, you are forced to loose the game. | ||

| Seeing as i have at least 5 games on my shelf that have very little to no hours played in them. FF12 CE Xenosaga 2 & 3 (still sealed) Dragon Ball for the Wii, Rayman, Oblivion for the PC (sealed). I'd have to say im deffinutly not a poor game. *oogling my prized Steal Battalion* Man theirs a pile of game that haven't gotten any love from me. I'm a deffinut FPSer Got Tuesday off for Halo I love my dungon games, Currently addicted to the Hellgate London beta. I love pretty games but they don't have to be pretty to be awsome games. I haven't been to a lan since Halo 1. Just got Folklore for the PS3 and LOVE IT! ![]() | ||

| FPSer. I donno if i qualify for an A$$hat but i tend to mess around a lot. examples are trying to knife people when i obviously am not going to be able to get within 20 feet of the guy. Or aiming at someones head and seeing how long i can keep it there before i beat the guy down (melee style). I get to be a "Dungeon Crawler" in winter months though and i screw around in those too. | ||

| haha i have to admit i have been the @$$hat on warcraft... which pretty much includes messing with 12 year old's heads, asking them philosophical questions after i pummel them in some custom map. yes still too poor to buy a game... that doesn't have free online play and unlimited playability... (notice i am still playing warcraft 3 on my core2duo)... I mean who hasn't enjoyed tormenting some ****y @$$hat before even just once? | ||

| Awesome write up!!! ![]() I definately fall into a few of those categories. FPShooter - Maybe I have pent up aggression? Graphic Snob - Never buy games unless it says it's recommended specs include the best graphic card! Gone to one LAN a reallllyyy big one, but I'm not sure if it counts me as a LAN boy / girl lol. Love racing games also, that could be the reason why I'm into cars. How about the ADD gamer? The one that always plays, but never finishes since they're always in mult-iplayer mode online? I'd fall into that also. The HaXxOr Gamer - Can't beat a game without pulling up codes online for GODMODE or other. HAHAHA I've done that with FarCry it was just too hard for me, being the first game. | ||

I'll agree with ya there on the FarCry I hate that fact that you can knife someone from behind and magicaly the PT boat down the freeking moutain is shooting rockets at you. I don't know where this sits but I have the problem of playing games forever and never finishing them similar to your ADD gamer, but I'm talking about having like 375 hours in Oblivion and never beating it and yes that the same charecter. Never made it past level 19. I think my obsesion with cars and guns came about the same way. EDIT: O my GOD the new Midnight Club is GORGOUS!!! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| ^ Midnight Club II was my first racing game for PC loved it! I understand you totally on the ADD gamer thing. It's the same thing that got me into trouble in school with math lol. I am a total out of the box thinker. So instead of moving up levels like in most linear games where there is a path. I try to look around take my time and make sure everything is safe before I proceed or check out things to see what they do. Sometimes I end up going the wrong direction. Talking about FPS games of course not racing. LoL it takes one person a week to finish a game for me at least a month! Hmm I guess that could be a new category... Slow Gamer - One that takes longer than most to complete a game. No matter the difficulty level. | ||
