Default Mini-Hoe-To: Playing WHAT Games?

Yeah, since I'm taking lots of time here, I can plan great stuff. Lots of ideas sitting on the back burner, but I thought I'd have fun with my fave right here.

I play a lot of older games. Lots of DOS, lots of 95. But, my favorites are on obsolete systems. So, I go the emulation route. I'll tell you how easy it is to set all this up, and give a bit of insight on the copyright law...

Emulation for OBSOLETE systems is perfectly legal, as it provides access to games that most likely could not be played elsewhere. If, like Playstation, they still sell the system new, it's not legal. Sorry, folks. Dreamcast is covered, PSX isn't.

But, I'll walk you through my favorite emulator, ZSNES. I checked, it's legal. Certain ROMs may be still copyrighted, do some poking. I'll never knowingly tell you to do something illegal.

First off, download your software. Do a Google search for SNES emulation, you'll find plenty. There are others as good as ZSNES, but it's just my favorite. I'll give no links, cause most are also host to warez, and I'm not promoting the illegal side of this.

After you find it, read the instructions for installation, and any patches that it may need. Once it's installed, keep it in its folder. Don't move it to the desktop. There's a great reason for this, just hold on. When it's first installed, it will ask for you o sit and configure it-it takes approximately five minutes, and it'll only need to be done once.

Next, locate some games for this. Just look for SNES ROMs, cause I don't know what kind of game you want or where I'd find it. Keep searching, most everything has been ported. Once you have ALL the files-some require three or four-place them in the same folder as your emulator. That way, it can find them when you tell it to load a game.

Do a test run, and if it loads, congratulations-you can play SNES on your computer! If not, check all the steps... It's normally a skipped step or missing file. Some ROMs are just unplayable, though, so look for alternate downloads.

No emulatr is complete without controllers, so here's a link to my favorite option for controlling the PC...

I'd have to agree that ZSNES is also my favorite SNES emulator Kayin.

I still break out the emulators now and again here to play some old school stuff.

It's perfectly legal to whip out the emulator if you still own the system and the games you're playing on the emulator.

www.zophar.net

for old roms.....

open kazaa lite, go to search, check the software radio button, and type in the name of the system (or abbreviation, ex: SNES, NES, N64) or just the word roms itself (or im combination with the system abbrev.) and you will find humongous collections of allegedly legal roms (if the latest news is accurate)...

dont open anything under a meg big...

and for another really good alternative for interface device, dual shock 2 to usb adapters are available all over the place...
