Exclamation Yearly Comic Book Craze

I believe it was sometime last year when I read a comic book called "Identity Crisis", which reinvigorated my interest in the comic book world. Shortly after that I read a book or two about the Dark Knight, then completely switched gears and read some of the .hack novels before taking a haitus.

Then with the recent movie release of Spider-man 3, I figured there was no better time to catch up and some comics. During this little spurt, I compiled a list of books/series I want to try and get around to. Luckily Amazon has most of them fairly cheap, so that may be the one-stop-comic-book-shop I'll be visiting the next few weeks. So after reading dozens of book reviews and recommendation lists, and making a few stops to Barnes & Noble, I've narrowed my choices down to a small list. I tried to limit things to short series with no more than 10 volumes and all are collected into one book, and dealt with major players in the DC or Marvel Universe. Here's what I'm looking towards:

Marvel: Civil War
Marvel: Secret War
Marvel: Zombies
DC: Kingdom Come
Trigun vol 1 & vol 2 hardback

Ok so Trigun is really not in the Marvel or DC Universe, but I have the 7 disc anime series and never had a chance to watch it, so I figured the manga by be an easier way for me to get the breakdown of the show. And apparently the 2 volumes are fairly hefty (350 some pages each), hard back, and follows almost the same story in the anime, give or take. Actually what really sold me was the fact that it's only 2 thick volumes and both came in hardback. Doesn't take much to please me!

I think right now Civil War will be my main attraction, but I'll probably end up buying all the Marvel and DC books all at once. I already placed an order for both the Trigun series, so hopefully that'll come in by next week and I can start hammering away at that.

Sure, my comic book/manga cravings only last for a few months out of the year, but I might as well ride them out for what they're worth. With the upcoming movie releases of Transformers and Rise of the Silver Surfer, this "phase" may last a bit longer this year.

Why does it have to be in hardback? I never went for conventional American comics (although I did have a very soft spot for Uncle Scrooge), but I've gone quite heavily for manga. I'm contemplating figuring exactly how long it's going to take before One Piece and Eyeshield 21 consume my bookshelves.

I was never into comic books, but I read about civil war in an article, and I'm into it now...although it's so hard to jump into...with all those interlocking stories and back stories and side stories...

Hardback was my initial thought, but that only lasted for a day! Speaking of Manga, the past week I went to the library and borrowed all 14 volumes of Naruto (dont ask me why), but now, suprisingly, I'm hooked. Before two weeks ago, I never understood the world of Naruto and why it had such a big fan base....but now I understnad. The story and characters are really good.

Even though I received my Trigun Manga's from Amazon, I'm considering getting back into Bleach (well I already read volumes 1-5 earlier this year).

Is One Peace any good? The library has 10 volumes of that. If you recommend it I"ll pick it up this week!

That's what I heard too, and after doing some research it seems there are close to a dozen side stories and what not...

It looks like the comic books are going to be put aside for some manga

I grew up as a comic junkie. I still wish I had never sold my collection... it was pretty respectable. I used to go to all the local comic conventions with my comic artwork and would sell them for some cash when I was 16. That is how I made my date money.
