Default Desktop How-to Part 3!

Continuing on, here is the goodies to turn your desktop from Llama to L337.

Welcome to the wide-wide world of Style XP. 20 bucks and your Windows experience will get supah-charged! You can try it free for a month at: Tgtsoft

When you get Style XP, you'll have options to load up new themes, and other goodness. The default stuff that comes with it includes several interesting colors and styles, and you can also download an editor at the same site to build your own desktop themes.

*Please page down a little, I had three images on the main page, and I do have some sympathy for those po' pimps on Dial-up...

Ummm... how 'bout a song 'til I get this figured out?

"IIiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii, have to come, comfortably numb..."

Yeah, Pink Floyd kicks ass...

*keep goin'.

*thanks!*

After you get Style XP set up, go to ThemeXP. Go to “Visual Styles” and there is a WHOLE lotta goodness to check out! My current theme is called “XtremeXP”

WINDOWBLINDS

WindowBlinds is one of the few programs mentioned that will span Windows 9x, 2000, ME and XP. Although the latest version "4.0", will only support 2000 and XP. They are working on making it 9x compatible though, so go ahead and download 3 if you're impatient... you can always upgrade to 4 later.

Windowblinds is along the lines of StyleXP, except it works a little more closely with windows. You go into Display Properties to make changes.

Windowblinds has made some real progress if you haven't checked it out lately. I still prefer StyleXP myself, but I have to admit a few of the Windowblind styles are pretty tweaking!

LITESTEP

Litestep is yet ANOTHER desktop tweaking program. I'm going to go ahead and leave off with this as the last mentionable. I haven't loaded this one myself yet (I am planning to), but it does have some pretty tweaking styles.

Basically, this one isn't as user-friendly as StyleXP, Aston, or Windowblinds. You'll need to change registry keys, tweak and play with it to get it operating. If you like doing things the hard way, this 'uns for you.

The end results can look like a cross between StyleXP and Aston. check it out at: Litestep.net

Welcome to a 15 dollar program called “Icon Packager”. Icon Packager lets you change out dang near every icon in your system, and it’s pretty easy to do it! Also, it comes with several ready-made themes that’ll let you get changed over immediately. Check it out: http://www.stardock.com/products/iconpackager/

Same deal as StyleXP, swing on over to http://www.themexp.org/ to check out more styles (the one I’m using is called “Orbicons II” mixed with another one called “Pearls”.

DS, litestep is more of a shell replacer then anything else. It allows users to create their own styles so it can pretty much replicate any OS or anything. It's freeform, not just a slap new images on type thing. It's fun to use, and fun to configure and play around with

Oh, and those pictures aren't that bad, it's pretty 56k friendly

Aw man, I thought this was going to be a DIY thing, damn, I'm too cheap to go and buy those stuff, too bad, would've really like to know how to mod the theme. I may sound cheap, but the best things in life are making cheap stuff worth $$, the basic point of DIY... oh well, nice stuff... just wish it was free

BTW.... DS you rock!!! keep on writing... I've spent hours reading your fourms and they are sooo true, and they kick @Zz

you've got L337 Skillz at nerdism and funnism!!!

Thanks for all the posts and the "anti depression thingy"

PS. this is off topic, but do you get paid?

Whenever I download a theme from themXP It's a Zip file. Where to you extract the contents of the file into?
