| Well gang... Tomorrow, I'm applying for work all over the city, and I'm off to go to this job expo thing. Probably swing by the local Frys and see if I can get hired to sign my paycheck back over to them anyway... (Even though I don't like looking for work, I have to admit it's nice to be able to be able to go place to place instead of sending off three apps to the companies that are actually hiring and prayin' I'm good enough for one of 'em to hire me). Also, I've been told the first post for this series was a little slow, so I've decided to cut the remedial crapola (had an entire section on MSCONFIG I'll probably post later for those who need it). DESKTOP TWEAKING: PART 2! Okay, so I'm usin' thumbnails to get these big honkin' pics off the main page. I'll be working to get everything nice and neat here soon. Okay.... now, here's the full size image 'cause yer gonna need to see this stuff! Right click on the icon we changed back in step 3 (or anywhere with no icons on the task bar). Click “properties†(should be the only option you have). Click on “CustomizeÂâ€, Then go to the “Advanced†Tab. If the site of the yellow highlights for new programs drives you nuts, go ahead and uncheck the box that say “Highlight newly installed programsÂâ€. I also usually take off the check-mark on the bottom for “Recent Documents†as well. In the scroll box in between, youÂ’ll find a whole section for removing and adding icons to your start-menu. I usually add the administratorÂ’s panel, take off “Help and Support†and add “My Network Places†Also, as you can tell, IÂ’ve started loading up my drivers and software. In my world, I like one, MAYBE two icons on my desktop. I like beinÂ’ able to see my wallpaper so cluttering up a perfectly good screen with offers for “AOL†isnÂ’t acceptable! Cuttin' those down is up to you. Some people like havin' desktop icons for the speed of operations. I tend to prefer "Quicklaunch" to store my programs. Speaking of Quicklaunch, you can find it here. Tomorrow (if I'm around, the day following otherwise), I'll be posting the coolness behind Style XP, Litestep, Winblinds, etc... I'll also be doing some more stuff on how to get the best visual quality out of your rig. In the near future, I'll be doing some stuff on Active desktop (track stuff like weather, stock stuff, etc... on you desktop), as well as an overview of TweakUI, some really cool places I've found for wallpapers, and some other stuff. Stay tuned! *NOTE: today's post was shorter than yesterdays because tomorrow's may span two posts (I do want to get it done in one day though). So don't think I'm runnin' out of steam, I just got a lot of ground to cover and limited space to do it in! Last edited by Darksamurai; 24-October-03 at 12:27 PM.. | ||
