Newcomers to the site have probably noticed the occasional reference to the PR Sock, and may well have been totally mystified. Like BigAkita’s age and/or appearance it’s one of PimpRig’s enduring myths – since its’ disappearance, it’s attained a status equivalent to the Turin Shroud, the Ark of the Covenant _and_ the Holy Grail among regulars here.


The origins of the Sock are lost in the old forums, but since I was there at the time, IÂ’ll give you my recollections as best I can.

Basically, the PR Sock is nothing more than a windsock, albeit a stylish silver one with blue feather motifs on the sides, itsÂ’ primary use was to allow modders to see when wind conditions are suitable for alfresco modding, in particular, spraying.

Many believe it was Wixx that engineered the sock from an ex-NASA spacesuit he just happened to have lying around, there is another school of belief whose fundamental tenet is that it was crafted by grey aliens from the remains of the weather balloon they crashed into in Roswell, New Mexico in 1947; IÂ’ve also been implicated at times, probably due to my 1337 sewing machine skillz.

Whatever itsÂ’ origins, the first recorded mention of the Sock was in a thread relating to the arrival of FroggieGirl, one of the lamentably small number of females here.

Kenny, who I also haven’t seen post in a very long time, was at the same time reporting exceptionally high wind speeds in his hometown – “I damn near lost {the} sock!” he told us.
However, he accidentally clicked the “new reply” button instead of “new thread” – this lead to an unfortunate, unintended link to FroggieGirl’s arrival, _with hilarious consequences_, as they say.

No-one knows precisely where the Sock is now Â… clown is rumoured to have had it at one point (he wanted the same colours for his car, which appears in his sig), and passed it on, but soon after that, the trail runs cold.

Rumours as to the current whereabouts of the Sock circulate constantly Â… one of the most credible states that the Sock is currently in the possession of a crack commando unit that was sent to prison in 1972 for a crime they didn't commit.
Having promptly escaped from a maximum-security stockade, they worked in the Los Angeles underground.

As I understand it, their principle activities for many years were pitying fools, building tanks whilst locked in conveniently well-stocked garages, and loving it when a plan came together.

Today, still wanted by the government, they survive by hiring out the PR Sock.

My source told me: “If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find {them}, maybe you can hire the PR Sock."

Bleh - what a tall tale. I have one of the PR socks (remember they come in pairs), the 2nd was launched into space because the Feds couldn't destroy it and feared for the health concerns with leaving it around a bunch of scientists with no women in sight.
