Yeah, that's where I've been..

It all started with a little red box.

Dervish and I don't like Microsoft. Not even the peripherals. So, we wanted to try open-source. Tried downloading. Firewalled! (ala Strong Bad's Teen Girl Squad) Tried burning the ISOs we got. Mislabeled! So, we broke down and got the RH9 box at Best Buy.

Yeah, we paid for Linux, but we did get full source code and a METRIC BUTTLOAD of documentation.

So, I install Linux. I'm all, "th1s r0x0rs, 1 n33d t0 g3t 0nl1n3 4nd t3ll 3v3ry0n3 h0w l337 th1s 1s" (I read all of MegaTokyo in a day-LARGO RULES!) I click on MoZilla-and nothing happens. I go to the internet configuration wizard. It can't even figure out if I have an ethernet card/port.

That's approximately 4:00 p.m. From there...

4:15-played guitar. Small crowd gathers, but no chix0rs. Fearing sausage party, I left.

4:32-drooled.

5:45-Becca let herself into my room as I was drooling. Becca is insane. I could never date Becca. But, she's cool, and fun to look at.

6:20-Head to mall.

6:30-Lose our freshman. He was later found playing DDR.

9:00-drooling again.

10:12-bed, cause there's no internet.

Saturday, I got up, and stayed in my pajamas until approximately 4:00. Then, I wandered campus, just looking at things-I hadn't played outside in a long time. Then, I drooled some more. Apparently the internet is addictive. Picking back up with our timeline...

8:00-tried the 4316721th time to configure my onboard NIC. No luck.

8:20-prank called ex-girlfriend. She thought it was funny. Note to pursue later.

9:15-Wished I had DivX so I could watch my anime. Sad.

10:00-began taping my shoes to the wall. I don't know why.

10:15-donut run. Bag of today's donuts that weren't eaten-1.50. I was happy.

Dervish and Andrew show up at my place. It's all cool. We tried to get it to run, but ended up just cursing at it, and I hit it with a pumpkin donut. The case side was on, and there are no blowholes. The rig was fine, the donut was inedible in the first place.

Our actions continued until 3:00 a.m.

10:00 a.m.-Helped Dervish and his parents get stuff out of storage. Took WAY too long.

1:30-drove past Dervish's old high school. All kinds of stuff was being tossed. Pics of that escapade to come.

5:30-tried to throw together an emulator machine. Didn't want to read my install CDs. I wanted to cry, but ate donuts instead.

7:00-drooled.

9:00-hooked up the 386 beowulf cluster thingy and played in Windoze 3.11. It was really ghetto.

9:45-Dervish makes the DOS screen say the stuff from 2001. I laughed.

10:00-Typing a paper for a basketball player. Made a few bux0rs.

10:23-got the bright idea to locate the USB ethernet adaptor.

10:25-logged on to PimpRig.

So here i am, a lot of drool and hard work later. My take? Still rather run Linux. I'm very happy with ALL FREE operating...

Folks, I nearly went crazy. I can't let that happen again...

Good to see you're enjoying Linux. I'm giddy over the fact Mandrake 9.2 is gonna be released in 8 more days.

Those onboard NIC's are still a bugger for most linux-distros.
Tried to help a friend of mine get his nForce2 onboard NIC to work in Mandrake but no go. He ended up buying a $10 pci-ethernetcard that worked like a miracle.
ALSA manages to get the sound working though, which is sweet.

A hint to those with nforce2 onboard NIC's, you have to download the driver RPM files for the nic from nvidia in order to get it to work.
