Well Cubicle Monkeys, dark times are upon me. Very dark times indeed.


As most of you know, due to my unemployment I've been living with my father for about the past 5-6 months. Looking for a job in the IT field has been all but fruitless even after contacting 200+ employers who are actively seeking applicants.


Most of you also know that my father recently remarried (which I considered a bad idea to begin with, but I'll get to that) and she and her son moved in roughly about 4 months ago. First off, everything between everyone was fine. No tensions, no fussing, no nothing. Everything was as normal as it gets.


Then she moved in, and all of a sudden a switch in her brain is flipped and she has done nothing for the past 4-5 months but complain, piss, and moan to my father that I shouldn't be allowed to live here (I helped build this house by the way, I pay all of my own bills, and clean up the house after everyone destroys it on a nightly basis) and she wants me to be kicked out. Kicked out with no job, no income, and no place else to live except in the back seat of my truck.
I only know about all of her rantings and ravings because after he gets sick of hearing her bitching, he comes to talk to me about it. To which I can only ask, “what in the hell is her problem with me? What did I ever do to her to deserve such treatment?”. Well, my father has no idea either, so he starts taking her to therapy (which she needs on more than one level). The therapist starts off by taking her side of things, until after a couple of sessions the therapist realizes that there is absolutely no reason for her to be vetting all of this anger towards me, which my father has been telling the therapist from the begining.


So life goes on, until recently. Now just to give you some background on this woman.


1.>My father met her on the internet. Red flag number one


2.>When my father told her he did not want to get remarried, she threw a temper tantrum and said she would sell her house and move back to Florida. Red flag number two


3.>When I asked my father why he was marrying her, his response was, “so that she and her son can have health insurance.” HUGE red flag number three


4.>The woman throws away canned goods. Yes you read that right, CANNED GOODS because they have surpassed the suggested retail sale date. According to her if it's past the sell date it's “rancid” her favorite word. Red flag number four

So, as of recently, my cell phone listed her name as Gold Digging Bitch, because she's obviously not here because she loves my father. She’s looking for something, and apparently I'm in her way of getting it. Well, her son asks me to borrow my phone Friday so he can call his friends who are coming to pick him up. I let him use my phone for that purpose and that purpose alone because we don't have long distance on the land line. Well, he proceeds to do the one thing I have repeatedly told him NOT to do which is use the phone for local calls, and not to play with the phone as it is not a toy.


He ignores my rules for using the phone and dials up his mom, and sees the name I have listed. So he then runs and tells her and of course she throws a **** fit, and once again drops an ultimatum to my father to get rid of me or she's leaving. The father I know would have told her to grow up and get over it, and if not she's welcome to get the hell out. Well, apparently my father is no longer my father as he has told me I must leave. Once again with no job, no income, and no place to live.


So, this means that until further notice, Cubicle101 is suspended indefinitely until I can get back on my feet and into my own place. And I’m going to be the first to tell you that this is not going to happen quickly. I've applied to over 200+ companies and have only received about 5 interviews, over half of which never get past the phone interview. And with the economy and job market getting hit harder than ever most companies are laying off IT people to cut costs. Obviously this does not bode well for me.


So I must say goodbye for now, and I hope that one day soon I can resume the comic. Thank you all for supporting the site over the years and helping it to grow. Without you, I am nothing.

Wow.......Life has thrown you quite a curve ball.

Maybe it's time to just get ANY job/ or jobs to move out. Since your dad is placing her position above blood relations, she must have this ability to suck tennis balls thru garden hoses....heh (j/k).......

My suggestion.......get anything and move out. I know it's hard, but staying there sounds like a living hell and the situation is getting more unstable. Talk it over with your dad that your going to move out, but need some time to get employment and save a lil' money.

I was going to just make a wise a$$ comment about the quote being "So long and thanks for all the fish" but after reading your post I feel like I must say more.

Obviously your father is very conflicted for some reason and I am not going to even try to guess. What I will say is that it seems like it is time for you to swallow your pride and start looking outside the IT field. UPS and FedEx are always looking for package sorters, retail stores are gearing up for the holidays, get something. Anything. Hell, I have a job where I make a pretty good salary and I have to look for a 2nd job now to keep things going. I'll probably end up at UPS.

I've already come to terms that I'm going to have to take a job, any job, no matter how piss poor it is. The problem is I've got to get back into a job where I'm making at least enough to support myself. Rent prices are sky high due to the housing market crisis so what would have costed me $600-700 a month now costs $800-900 per month.

on top of that energy prices were just raised 20% here in TN, an added pain in the ass. Plus car insurance, cell phone, and the storage unit nearly all my belongings are already in. All that adds up pretty quickly.

My only hope is a friend of mine can carve me out a space at his place for a couple of months while try to get back on my feet.

That is pretty rough! Get your stuff out of there before she starts saying it is hers.

I use to make decent cash delivering pizza part time. You can work nights, have the day to look for a real job. It paid the bills, and I got a ton of free pizza. Or maybe you could become a !

I'm kinda wishing ill will towards her, she sounds like a real Cruella Deville.

That woman is so lucky I'm not inyour shoes I'd do every thing in my power to make her life a living hell.

Most of the stuff I've thought of I cant even say, I pretty sure they'd sent the white coats after me.

I don't even know this succubus and I hate her guts. I may have over stept my bounds a but but dam she sounds like a bitch.

I hope your dad wises up to her wicked ways and she comes to a very unplesent end. Most of all I hope you get your ends to meet and get some more fish. Good luck to you and your father.

I can only echo the two best thoughts that everyone else here is saying:
1. You're being dealt a horrible hand, my sympathy.
2. Get out now, take any job you can, and put your pride aside.

You can make $1500 a month working retail, maybe more, even at the entry level. That's not much, but it gets you rent and food, and you might even do well enough that you work your way up while looking for a different job. And if that happens, hell, you've got a second career opportunity.

My dad always said, "They pay you to do a job. If it was fun, they wouldn't call it work." Work isn't what we love -- it's what pays the bills.

I'm pulling for you. And don't worry about your dad -- sooner or later, he'll come to his senses. By the way, how old is her son? When do you tell your dad that her son should be kicked out and get a job as well?

Well, one of the things I've told my dad is that once I'm gone, who is she gonna focus all her problems on since she doesn't have me to bitch about anymore. That leaves two people, my dad and her son.

And the last time she threw a temper tantrum about my dad kicking me out, he told her that if he has to kick me out because of her, then her son is out on his ass the day he turns 18. Whether that will be lived up to remains to be seen as her son is only 10-11, that's quite a few years to wait and see and quite frankly at this point I don't really care anymore.

Not sure if you believe in this stuff but I've said a few prayers for you. Can't hurt after all.
