Exclamation Attention All Webmasters

Not sure if anyone has come across this article yet, but it caught my eye seeing how I admin a website.

Quote:
Although Beta 2 of Internet Explorer (IE) 8 isn’t due out until some time in August, Microsoft is cautioning Web site owners now that they need to be prepping now for possible problems the new, more standards-compliant browser may cause.
As part of this week’s IE June Security Update for IE8 Beta 1, Microsoft introduced a new tag, “IE+EmulateIE7? — which it is counting on to head off some of the incompatibilities the company is anticipating could occur, based on feedback it received from IE 8 Beta 1 testers.

I personally never had IE in mind when I rebuilt Cubicle101, and going back and looking there are some differences in how the site looks between IE and Firefox, which I used to reference the design while building it. But from this article it sounds to me like MS is about to shoot themselves in the foot with this release of IE.

I'm willing to bet allot of new users and adopters will be flocking to FireFox.

As for you webmasters out there, this link will take you to documentation on how to prepare for the coming problems It forces IE to "emulate" IE7's standards.

I'm not sure if this is a long or short term fix, I guess we'll se when the final IE8 gets puked out onto the internet.

We had a good laugh at work the other day when I loaded up Hotmail in IE8 and the whole layout was screwed. Come on Microsoft, you can't even code your own products to work properly in your own browser! What hope do the rest of us have?!?

Since it is in beta, problems of course are out. Thanks for the heads up for those that didn't even know IE8 was even in development.
