Default Direct Die Cooler ver 1.1 INTEL P-4

I've relapsed back into an extreme/insane state of mind, this time with a P-4 in hand...
At first I was going to run the IHS and vent the breather hole into the cooler body via a snokel.
Thinking to myself, that wouldn't really be direct die cooling, a change in plans was in order.
So out came the razor knife just to get a look see at the innerworkings of the P-4 die...

ahhh,
And there is that baby-ass smooth chip.
This calls for a cellabration...YEA......Ok, now that the super glue is holding the skin closed,(minor slip of the new razor knife) and the bleeding has stopped, notice how the area around the Die is free from resistors ala Barton, T-Bred.

Here is a comparison in size, the P-4 CPU to the AMD CPU.
Soooo much more room to work with on a P-4 motherboard. this will be fun...Phatt fingers and all.

i thought you had wooden hands from the fishing accidents? j/k
i think you should make a nuclear case mod. cooling stacks on top with instead of a radiator a heat exchanger that drops the water through the air just like real stacks. and a resivor shaped like a reactor.
good luck with the super pimpness

Have you checked to see if the chip is dead after cutting the heatspreader off?

A lot of people take the spreader off claiming that mounting the heatsink/waterblock directly to the die provides better cooling.

But I've never seen a P4 direct die watercooled before. If any of you pimps find a link please enlighten me, but all I've ever seen were AMD CPU's.

hell i tore the heat spereader off the second that my P4 (1.7 socket 423) was given to me. it actually reduced the operating temp by a few degrees. the IHS now resides on my keychain and now become a server for work. just a webserver. but i think the IHS is a bad idea. Although i ran a 1.6 (423) for about 8 minutes with no heatsink to try and burn it up......in the name of science... it didnt happen. put a HSF on it ran like a champ. so i cut the IHS off and it comensed to setting itself on fire i think it reduces the efficency of heat transfer. going through two "non-solid" subatances and two distinct metal surfaces, can't be condusive to good heat transfer.
but hey thats just my two cents.
