| Project: “IcE Lightning†Ok so I have been “Working†on this project for about 4 months and this is what it looked like about a week ago: ![]() ![]() ![]() (Well all but the water cooling tubing, I have changed to blue to better match the theme) Computer Specs. Thermaltake Kandalf Super tower Hiper TypeR 580w PSU (Blue) DFI Lanparty SLi-D mobo AMD 64 Opteron 146 CABYE @ 3.00Ghz 1GB HyperX PC4000 RAM BFG Tech 7800GTX 256MB @ 475/1.30 Samsung 19" LCD 930B 8ms SB Audigy 2ZS Plat. Klipsch 5.1 Ultra 500w Plextor DVD-RW DL 80GB SATA HD Swiftech MCP655 Pump Swiftech Storm CPU Block Black Ice Extreme 3 Radiator There are the mods done so far: I painted the top plastic part. Added a mirror to that center circle thing (makes the blue led light show up better.) Painted the entire inside of the case with metallic silver. Painted the back cover a gloss white then used a UV reactive Blue paint (that is what gives it that nice blue glow) I am going to re-do this in silver so it better matches the rest of the case I painted the pump. I removed the side brace that was running across the length of the case. It was there to help support that PSU however if you install that PSU correctly there is no need for it. It also gets in the way of viewing the inside of the case so I cut it off. Also I painted the rivets that hold the windows on and the latches to the side door. Painted both my drives. Installed a custom switch panel that controls the UV lights and my second PSU for powering the water pump and the fans on the radiator. And I think my coolest mod was installing a key switch to turn the system on. There are pics of that in my gallery. I have also done a custom window etching. Well these make the case look a little more “custom†however my water-cooling system was holding me back. I had the radiator mounted to the side of the desk because it was so big it would not fit in the case. So I have decided to change that! So far I have cut the 120mm holes on the top of the case. Also I have painted the Raid to match the drives, pump, and other trim around the case. I have also cut that top plastic piece so that it “wraps around†the rad. I am waiting for an order from performance pcs.com. I am getting molding for the fan holes. UV paint for the etching. And some other stuff. I will have an update soon when I get paid on Friday hehe. ![]() Last edited by IcEMage; 25-January-06 at 09:52 PM.. | ||

They are huge! The reason I got one was that my old case could not hold all my wattercooling equ. (well it could but it looked like crap the way I had to set it up. I love the room in the front of this case, it has room for 12 5 1/4 bays (could be more cant remember the number) and the harddrive rack/fan keeps you HDs nice and cool. The only down side I have found is that the case it a little thin, they could have used thicker aluminum to make it a bit stronger. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| i wish i could do something like that. i want to but have no experience, if anyone has any tips, please message me. i'm good with tech. like Amv 's and other audio/video stuff but dont know squat about how to make graphics and ram work better, overclock, or mod pc out, i just get confused, i have a very workable budget though i guess. but generally how much would this sorta thing cost.Last edited by yosemite; 28-January-06 at 02:07 PM.. | ||

| OkÂ….. So I got payed on Friday so I went and did a little shopping. First was Primer Then Silver paint Next 600grit sand paper and a sanding block And the coolest thing, a detail sander, man that puppy really helped move things along, I highly recommend it to any computer modder out there. So I took the case apart and sanded everythingÂ….it took a long time. Then I used bare metal primer to put down a nice base coat, used two coats to make it very even. After the primer dried for about an hour I began painting. I put 4 coats on the bottom tray of the case. As you can see from the pic it did not come out perfect. After letting the paint dry over the weekend I returned on Friday and gave her a good wet sanding with the 600grit paper. This left a smooth surface to put the 2 final coats on. I painted the last coats and she was done. I will post pics of the final product later tonight. As far as the other parts were concerned I was not as concerned with them being perfect because of the face that they are hard to see. The mother board got 4 good coats and turned out really well with no sanding. The only other part that I am going to paint like I did the bottom tray will be the top of the case. That had 2 coats on it and it waiting for 2 more when I get home from work. After that I am going to let her sit for 2 days and then sand and put down the final coat. I also got my order from performance pcs and began painting the etching with UV blue paint. I will have pics of that tonight (I hope). I am going to mount 3 5mm UV leds to the side door so that the etching will have a nice glow to it. Look for another update soon plus more pics. | Apex Techie Wannabe | Looking good... Let me know how that Riviter tool works. I'm about to start a project similar to that, but I'm hesitant on buying one of those tools as I don't know what kind of quality work they can do. If they are going to tear things up and ruin a pain job I might try to find an alternative. | |
