Default Warhammer 40k - Inquisitor themed mod

This mod is based on the Inquisitor characters in the warhammer 40000 universe. For those who have no idea what I'm talking about, it's a table top miniatures wargame from a british company called Games Workshop. I don't play it or paint the miniatures anymore, but I think the universe is very cool and the artwork is absolutely fantastic, so this mod will try to capture the spirit as best I can.

I'm still in the early stages but things are moving along nicely. This mod will be dominated by a nasty, evil looking cyborg skull very much like the one I use for my avatar. It will be mounted on the drive bay fronts, and if things go as planned, the jaw of the skull will be attached to my DVD-ROM tray, so it slides out!

The front panel is going to be very busy, with a crystalfontz LCD, a theromometer dial to measure ambient case temp and a digital LCD thermometer with a long, wired probe I could place just about anywhere, as well as switches to turn off the case lights.

So here's a few pics:

Custom fan mounts to direct optimum air flow directly onto the hottest areas as well as a window with the Inquisition symbol:

The over-all picture right now, minus the skull. Bought an expensive reset button (20 bucks for a fuggin button, wtf am I smoking!!!) and have a sweet idea for a custom power switch I'm working on:

The front with the skull, nothing is attached yet though. Eventually there will be red lights inside the bionic eye and the lenses will help magnify the light to create an interesting effect I hope:

The Lower Drive Bay, as I'm calling it:

Because the skull will take up 3 of my drive bays, I needed room to mount an audigy front panel, which I find to be indispensible. I'm using the shell of an old PSU, which just happens to be approximately the same size as a modern drive peripheral. I haven't mounted this part yet but I will soon:

And finally, the floppy drive must be stealthed! So I bought this electrical outlet cover from Lowe's and am adapting it to my needs. It had an ugly texture and some words that needed to be ground off:

Some modifications I made so a disk would actually fit in:

That's all for now. I don't actually have any hardware yet, going to need to wait a few more paydays for that. But I'll need time to finish this beast up, so it's all good.

Hehe, I know exactly what you are talking since I play...

Sweet start man, I am guessing you will be painting it silver with yellow highlights and whatever else the codexs paint them as.

Well thats the Dark Angels chapter man! Look into the different paint schemes for all the armies, each "named" army has its own unique one. Including the one ou are working on...

Either way its your mod, if you want green inquisitors (case mod ) by all means hook it up.

Nope, sorry Spike, its gotta be Blood Ravens or Space wolves. Either colour scheme would look great on that case

Yeah Dark Angels are my favorite army and colors. Was originally going to do that, but an inquisitor mod seemed much more interesting. I could make it look like some kind of torture device to extract confessions or somethin.

Skulls are a vital part of any would be inquisitor mod. You need to have purity seals on it too

You mean Dante*, hehe. My army is about 2,500 K give or take with wargear. Usually if I ever get to play which almost never happens now its with less that 1,500 K a game...

Oh yeah I've got purity seals planned. I'm going to list the system specs on them, but in a gothic script. I've also ordered some symbols from Forge World.

I also will put lots of the litanies and sayings they have, stuff like "purge the mutant" and "burn the heretic" etc.

Got my custom lower drive bay cut and mounted. It sure was hard to get precise cuts and holes drilled into 1mm thick steel!

Here's a few pics with an old CD drive mounted to ensure fitting.

And here's some bling! Lots of units in the 40k universe have bling, such as gold and gemstones. This is a cabochon cut of agate. My plan is to shine some red light thru it from an LED so it glows blood red. The lenses are from a camcorder I found in a trash can, I'll make good use of them.

Haven't made much progress lately. Been busy with school and waiting for shipments to arrive. Got my order from Forge World in:

And most importantly, my Opteron, and it's a CABYE! Bonus.

Today I installed my current hardware into my new case mod as a test to make sure everything fits together decently and to check the temperatures and case airflow. I received my Seasonic S12-600w friday and wanted to check it out, it's definitely the nicest PSU I've ever seen! And very quiet.

I'm considering whether or not I need a blowhole. I'm going to get a DFI lanparty expert and with the placement of the CPU on that model a blowhole seems like a good idea.

My 120mm fans I added made a definite impact on temperatures - even with no exhaust fan! However, they are loud. Maybe it's just the particular noise they make, but they are much louder than my 3 80mm fans.

There is a small fan mount, for a 70mm fan on the back of this case and there is also ample room to make a cut for a 80mm fan as well. Not sure what kind of impact a small fan would make, though. I know with some kind of exhaust fan my temps will go even lower. Any advice?

I'm also thinking that with the placement of the lower 120mm fan for the video cards I will get one of those arctic coolers for a 7800GTX (gonna have to save up for that heh) so it will have a constant supply of fresh air while ejecting the hot air. I'm fairly loyal to zalman, but the design of those arctic coolers seems even more intriguing.

Got my order of modders mesh from mnpctech today and set about cutting it. My idea was to create a shroud to cover my lower drive bay, and to make a "deck plate" with which I could run wires underneath to keep things nice and tidy.

I think it turned out pretty well. My cuts just aren't perfect so I have to wrestle with things a bit to get the screw holes to line up. Ahh well. I have an old CD rom in there at the moment to ensure fitting is right. The audigy front panel I plan on having in there for the final build will be much shorter than the CD rom.

In any event I'm very satisfied with how this turned out. I plan on having a sound blaster on the bottom PCI port, and will run the ribbon cable for the front I/O panel under the mesh, as well as the firewire cable and any other wire I can fit.

NICE! Modder's mesh rules!

Are you going to paint the interior of the case at all?

If you are, can I suggest buying a can of vinyl dye (in a matching colour of course) and maybe painting the ribbon/firewire cables with it - that way, you'll hardly be able to see them at all ESPECIALLY under the mesh
