![]() | I think the tribal looks great. Altho i do agree you can do a bit more.... Like the one above said: maybe in the other corner or maybe add something more to this one to make it bigger? Keep it up! Greetings, Mike for AC Ryan - modding & gaming for performance PC www.acryan.com |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Update 14 (7/10/05) Yesterday, I realized my computer was still loud, though not as loud as it was previously. I stopped each fan individually and narrowed the noise down to the AC Ryan 120mm intake. It's only 28.95dBa, but its loud, relative to the 20dBa PC P&C Silencer 80mm fans. I took the front fascia off and looked at how I installed my 160GB hard drive. Right smack dab in front of the fan. Turbulence anyone? So I moved that hard drive up a slot, so the fan isn't blowing right on it as before. Also, the front "gills" had to be changed, though I really liked them. I tried to extend them, making them longer, but it looked as straight as if I used a compass for it. So I just cut it all out, did some touch up painting, and put some mesh behind it. Less turbulence, and about 6V going to the fan now means less noise. It's not silent, but its much, much easier on the ears. Like my ghetto front panel?

| Apex Tech God | Isn't that the fan you only mounted using the lower two mounting holes? That could be contributing to the noise, rather than the fan itself...

Slowing down the speed of a vibrating fan isn't really solving the problem, is it? Try using some rubber on all areas making contact between the fan and the chassis, that might help more. I assume since the intake fan is new, you don't have a problem with a shot bearing.

| Apex Techie I | maybe get some thin sheetmetal and cut it around the fan so you can screw it to the sheetmetal and then just use pop-rivets to hold the metal in place.... and use some rubber grommets .... like someone said, its probably because the fan is being held together by two screws... but other than that suggestion, great work |

I have a Zalman fan mate that is running the fan at 5V. A visable 5.25" bay fan controller is useless for me. I'm not going to make my rig louder to game. I like hearing footsteps, etc when gaming. The fan is sandwiched between the hard drive rack and case front, and without the hard drive right behind it, and the open front, it's much quieter than it was previously. I do have rubber between the case and fan, on both sides. Is there anyway to definitively decide if it is fan vibrations? At full speed, it's no louder than another identical fan I plugged into my test PSU.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Update 15 (7/29/05) So yeah, I went on vacation for a week and then I just really didn't have the motivation to get back to work. I'm 95% there, and it's taken shape, so I find this the hardest part of the project. Just need to wrap up those final details. I etched the tribal flames in one corner, but not the other. I thought putting them everywhere would make it too busy and detract from the AC Ryan logo and the hardware. I've given up on the plexi fan grill, and am now focusing on thin plastic or something like that. I also need a better camera for my flash-less shots of the UV goodness.

I don't think a better cam is needed. Just be absolutely sure you are standing perfectly still, bracing a shoulder against a wall or sitting down with the cam and your elbows propped on your knees, or even get a stack of books and use it as a temporary tripod. With your flash turned off and taking pics at night, digicams are very sensitive to motion.

| Apex Advanced Techie | Since you posted a "new hardware" message, the thread got bumped to the top and I took a few minutes to read it. I must say that you have done some great work on this pimprig themed case. I was gonna ask about the "ThermalTake SilentTower" (thinking it was a new case) but then I googled and found out that it was a CPU cooler ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Update 16 (10/23/05) First update in nearly three months, ouch. This one of those projects... Well, I didn't forget about it and finally got into the postition to go watercooled. Asetek Antarctica, Asetek GPU block, Hydor L30, BlackIce Pro, DangerDen Fillport, 3/8" Home Depot tubing and I'm happy. (The chipset block didn't fit.) I am waiting for clearance on a copyright issue for a 92mm fan grill I am going have custom made for the mod, and once that's in and everything is buttoned up, I should be 100% done.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Thanks for the compliments. I currently have a very very small leak on my GPU block that I'm trying to track down. I get maybe a droplet every 4 hours from it. I'm trying to find out exactly where it's coming from and fixing it. My chipset fan is the loudest thing in my system right no |
