| Well, since the last project didn't go as well as planned and I STILL had this great idea for a case, I have nixed the old G2 case project found here: http://forums.pcapex.com/showthread.php?t=8781 Why did I abandon the old project? Space. The old project was based around a YY-Cube case. Great little case overall... the keyword being "little". The case was much smaller than I had anticipated. This was a great lesson for me that taught me to pay clsoe attention to dimensions. I simply couldn't fit all my stuff in that case. I fought it all I could but eventually had to give up the fight and regroup. While bummed around looking for another case to use I ran across www.mountainmods.com and their cases. I really liked the cases overall but wasn't happy with the excessive amount of fans and lack of modding real estate. I decided to initiate communications with the company and pitched an idea for a different case config. They were exprememly receptive to the idea and a couple days later I was able to supply them with drafts of the new config, hand drawn diagrams and all. They will be sending me one of the units for review (as well as a case to giveaway at the www.stompfest.com March 6th event). The unit they wil lbe sending me will also have some special alterations just for me... mroe details on that to follow. While I feel as though I am taking a bit of a shortcut by letting someone else do the cutting for me on the main case (would you pass up some free custom laser cutting?!) I still feel good that the ideas were all fully mine... BUT, if I had not had their help I would not have the case in time for the StompFest event... I woul dhave been bringing my pretty beat up Lian-Li with it's guts hanging out (not enough room, heheh). I still have some very nice ideas for this case... I still intend to carry over some of the ideas from the previous project as well as some new ideas. Here is a preview shot that mountain mods sent me with the new "PimpRig Config". I will post detailed pics as soon as the case arrives. The pics is pretty dark so it is hard to see the two 120mm fan holes onteh fron pf the case towards the top. These SHOULD fit perfectly with a Black Ice 2 (dual) radiator. | ||

| One of the easier mods in this project is for the bay res. I will be using a single bay, 5.25" bay res that I got from www.voyeurmods.com . The bay res will sit flush with the front of the case like the other 5.25" drives and accessories and I didn't want it to simply be a rectangle showing the blood of the beast. I spread some masking tap over the front bezel, printed out a PimpRig logo, taped it over and then used an exacto knief to cut around the design through the print out and the tape. I then carefully peeled off the tape around the letter, painted it, and then peeled off the rest of tape to reveal a slick little stencil. I could have blacked out the letters and left the areas around it clear (esentially the negative of what I did) but i thought it would look better this way. | ||

Yup... I will be putting some mirror tint on the windows but will be cutting some tribal art out of it... You'll see. This mad mofo is gonna be TIGHT. Can you say BLACKLIGHTS? There SHOULD be x4 12" UV CC and X4 80mm Dual UV CC Fan grills. =] Luckily, I was able to have my case setup so that I am still able to use all of the parts I had chromed. ![]()

| I was over at MountainMods looking at those cases a couple weeks ago ya lucky dog...lol I kind of had the same thoughts as you about the designs they had shown available. Nice job on that bay res too. It will look even sharper lit up. Whats the plan for the old YY now? | ||

Right now it is sitting here all lonely and naked. I am taking some of the chromed parts from it and putting them in teh new rig... SOOO the old case has unpainted side panels, a hacked on bezel, NO PSU mounting bracket, and NO 3.5" drivebays. I will be bringing it with me to StompFest (if I can fit it in) and be giving it to Chrome_Rust.

| I had to make sure that my mouse matched the black, blue and chrome color scheme that the system will have, soooooo... I did a real simple mod on the Dual Logitech Mouse that I have come to love and simply replaced the red leds with blooooo ones (which I purchased from www.dragonmodz.net). | ||

| I totally fell in love with the whole cube case thing in january *drools*. I'm very jealous but excited to see what you have in store ![]() The prices on the case are a lil high..which is the only reason I might have to pass up on this case. But I'm still in love with it ![]() | ||

| I received the case last friday (if I hadn't it would have been a very bad thing). Here are some shots of this monster. This case has TONS of room. After unwrapping the case and snapping some pics of it I immediately dove into prepping it. I encountered the usual resistance from the apartment natives, of course. | ||

| One of the biggest and most time consumings mods I had planned for this project was for the PSU. I ordered some UV sensitive 18 Guage (blue and red) wire from FrozenCPU to use for this project. What was the plan? Totally rewire the PSU including UV sensitive wire and then BRAID all of the wires running between the molex connectors. I changed the 12v and 5v wires to the new red and blue UV sensitive wire. It doesn't take a genius to spot that the red wired actually looks closer to hot pink. I snipped the molex wire leads very short and then spliced in the UV wire. To make sure these are secure I soldered them together really well. I snipped and removed the PSU conenctors that I didn't need, too. One goof during this project is that I thought I had 18 guage black wire to use in areas that the black leftover wire wouldn't be long enough for. Unfortunately the wire is actually 22 guage. I used it anyways when I had to and I can only hope this won't adversely affect the performance of the PSU. I can honestly say that I did not expect this to be as much work as it was. I probably will never do this mod again. After over 12 hours of finger tip torture and fighting the braids as well as the molex pins, it is finally finished! My only hope now is that I did not goof up somewhere and that the PSU works like it should. | ||

| Keep in mind that I am prepping this case for use at Stompfest and I HAVE to be ready by Friday for some serious gaming (read: Ass-Whooping). This project will ramp up QUICKLY. I'm sure you saw the abundant amount of fan holes in the case. Here are the army of Vantec Stealth fans that will be occupying the rig. Each fan also has a fan silencer that will go between it and the case when mounted. | ||
