Today, I'm irriated with my AMD contact... I've asked politely twice now, over the past 2 weeks for the font file used in the Phenom FX logo, so I can make some badges for the new side panels, I've had to resort to other means.. I'll keep you posted

I've been irriated with my AMD contact this past week... I can only describe it as carrying on a one way conversation, I ask for something and either get no response or half answers. I'm convinced he has no idea of the time to create something like this.

On another topic, Carlos and I told AMD on Day 1 that our plan was to install the entire Phenom FX system in this case, power it up for everyone to see via YouTube before it left for CES ... AMD said "That sounds great!" As you've read here, getting samples of new hardware is difficult. Hey, I'm willing to compromise, but telling me one month into the project "the neccessary tools (software to enable hardware) can't leave the building" after I've had to ask specifically about it, that was misleading to the expectations we laid out and presented to them.

I'm suggesting other tactics around this issue, so hopefully we'll work something out.

You nailed it.. I talked with Carlos yesterday about this, hes flying out to some event to meet with the higher powers this week.

As I described eariler, theres a lot of 120mm fan holes in the SwordM. Why not take advantage of these and make custom logo fan grills? Plus, this task would utilize Dave Lalopa's cad/design skills. Well, I've been waiting for the font files from AMD. They had no problem sending me the logo designs, but the font files have taken awhile. I had first asked nearly a month ago. They must really be sacred files. It would just make Dave's work easier if he had these files ...I really want our designs to be flawless. Dave's time is valuable too. I think somebody at AMD needs a fire lit under their @$$.

We're planning for them to be laser cut in 1/8" thick 6061 aircraft aluminum. Then, I'll either have them chrome plated or professionally polished. No time for hand polishing on this project.

Since we're still waiting for the font files from AMD, Daves also a sponser for this build, he made the design for the PCdesignlab 120mm grills. The design echos the square side panels.

I sketched this fan grill design today. It based upon the PAMD64 logo seen at the end of the Project Phenom video segment. A different twist for this fan grill, it will mount diagonally on two screws across the 120mm fan. Dave Lalopa will draw this in CAD, make the neccessary tweeks, so we can have them laser cut.

That is a very sleek design, but I have a feeling that it may need some kind of re-inforcement to prevent it from vibrating (i.e. cut out of thicker than normal material). An added coolness factor would then be available, because you may be able to bevel the edge.

Carlos just returned back from Lake Tahoe after meeting AMD's Director of Product & Strategic Communications. All of the issues involving neccessary hardware and tools for us to build and launch this system and record it in my shop have been cleared! All systems GO people!

Dave sent me these grill design proofs today. These are not finalized. for example, the centers of the 6 & 4 would fall out. These would be laser cut from 1/8" thick 6061 aluminum and chrome plated.

Slightly of topic...was the other person (AMD contact) present in this most recent meeting? It would have been worth their while to educate him/her in the finer details of public relations et al.

On the fancover design: All I can say is...WICKED . One day when I am big, I also want to play with a Laser machine . A question; would there not also be some CNC machining involved?

Great point! and unfortunately No, he wasn't from what I've been told.. I get the feeling things were re-inforced after this meeting.

The grills could be cnc milled, but laser cutting will save us a lot of time. They can use Dave's files while Craig's vertical mill uses a manual keypad control. (next video segment) The grill designs must be manually programmed. It's more time consuming. If we could buy some extra time, I could see us engraving accent grooves in the laser cut grills.

We've decided this grill design would fit our theme better. It will accent the straight line edges on the side panels. In particular the new top panel design we're working on, that will accomondates 3x 120mm exhaust fans.

personally i like the amd also,...so bill have you ever figured out on how to have the fan turn as if were an air lock .I remember one of you guys suggesting that when you received the case on the video when everyone was brain storming
