| Well Im looking for a streaming utility like the one in the link provided. When you first access the website you will see a circle thing that rotates showing that it is loading. This is what the cursor turns into in OS X when loading so I think it is an OS X like application. Is there anything like this that will stream such high quality mp3's? Also does streaming mp3's take a lot of bandwith? Im thinking about hosting a website dedicated to streaming my favorite mp3's. Thanks in advanced for the help. http://www.purevolume.com/kickoverthetraces (not for the taste of music just an example of the program) | ||

| It really all depends on how much music is being streamed, and how popular the page would be. I used to stream music back when I hosted a few site for myself and just the music bandwidth took about 3/4 of my total bandwidth usage per month. Don't get me wrong, its a really great idea and it is really ncie to have on your site, but unless you have a lot of bandwidth to spare i wouldn't reccomend it. There are a few sites out there that will host a popup mp3 player that you can upload your own playlists to, but it has been a long time since I last used them, and im not sure if they would be free anymore. Its worth a shot though. Good luck. | ||

| Just google "Flash mp3 Player" and get the applications you need. You can insert those type of things using html if you know how, if not I could make you a small template. Here is a link so some of the player downloads "http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?item=Flash_MP3_Player" Let me know if you would like a small html template. Ill see if I can put one together really quick before i head out for the night. | ||

| Well I got it installed but I just cant get it to stream any of the music except the one that it came with. HTML Code: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <player showDisplay="yes" showPlaylist="no" autoStart="yes"> <song path=" /www/ryapfl9.coconia.net/MP3 Player/mp3/homeland.mp3" title="Postmen - Homeland" /> <song path="mp3/jazzalude.mp3" title="Basement Jaxx - Jazzalude" /> <song path="mp3/Smiling.mp3" title="Sad - Man on Fire" /> </player> http://ryapfl9.coconia.net/ | ||

| not sure exactly which one you got, but you have to edit a document that came with the player and manually enter in each song that you want to have on the list. You will also have to link to those songs and upload them to the same place on the directory that you are using... PM me if you need more help. | ||

| I gigabyte of bandwith can disappear very quickly when streaming mp3. Lets say you have 10 listeners streaming 128Kbit mp3 on average. 128,000 bits per second / 8 = 16,000 Bytes per second 16,000 bytes/second * 10 users = 160,000 bytes/second 1,073,741,824 Bytes (gigabyte) / 160,000 = 6711 seconds before limit is hit. 6711 / 60 = 111.85 minutes With 10 listeners @ 128kbit, you'd run out of bandwidth in just under 2 hours. | Well my site would be lucky to get 10 listeners and they would probably be bots anyways. I was just trying to set this up so I could stream some of my favorite mp3's on my computer and not have to host them locally on my hard drive. I have 3 gigs of bandwith though, but I see your point. Thanks for the info. | ||

| Well, I don't know if you've considered ShoutCast. It's got good sound quality, even on low bandwidth, you can even set it to accept multiple DJ's. If you want to take a look at it, it's right here. www.shoutcast.com My site has 20GB bandwidth, so, I can afford to toy around with it. ![]() Not trying to be a spammer or anything, but if you're looking for a good hosting company, Randumb.org is pretty good. The package I have is 100MB @ 20GB /mo for ~$5 USD ($7 AUD). It's an IRCd shell account with webhosting and such. | ||
