How is it? I'll be taking it next semester in college. What can you do with it?

DOes anyone have experience in C++ or C?

I know the basics of C++, stuff like defining variables, handling data input/output, file handleing, database stuff etc.

As you know im pretty much always on Messenger if you need a hand with anything.

C++ is a pretty straight forward language, you'll soon get the hang on it

I took Visual Basic at ITT Tech over the summer. Awesome class and I wish I could have taken more of it. Very interesting stuff.

Why?

Uses straightforward language instead of hard to decipher code. Think DOS.

The course said I will learn BASIC first, then VB. I want to learn C, since PICs (progammable IC's) use C (which would allow me to do more things..)

I'm a vet in VB6 and VB.net and IÂ’ll tell you you can do ANYTHING. They are full fledged languages. I'v also had experience with C, visual C++ and C++.net and I hate C. VB is a RDL (rapid development language) you give up some control to make development faster. But thatÂ’s only if you use existing objects. You can always make your own.

If your looking to learn anything, IÂ’m more than willing to help you out.

Talking Vb

I once made a living coding VB up to version 6. Played with .Net and didn't see any STUNNING differences.

Heck Ive recently been writing some abstract animations using VB. Compute, display, dump to .bmp, repeat kinda stuff.

PM me when you're stuck. I always forget to check this forum even tho' I check in at Pimprig regularly.

Well Its 2nd Semester for me, and Im taking VB6 .net. So far we have basically created a button that when pushes changes color of a label and displays a message. Then for our 1st Assignment we had to create a card generator (not random). There were Buttons For each Suite, Ace, King, Queen, and Jack. There were also buttons for clear and exit.

Im liking it so far. Once I have enough knowledge, Im looking to create a program of my own for people to use.

The parallel port thing I wrote in VB6 (I can't stand .net) for Windows and in C for Linux. C is more impresive imho, but VB's not bad for things like this. I don't know if your teacher is craxy - in a bad way -, but the guy who tought Sir.Smoke.Alot and I last year sure is! Just ask him. C# is also pretty useful, I don't know if you already know it, but it is pretty potent stuff.
Oh damn, I just realized I am starting second sems towmorow, and I have another course with VB guy. No worries though, I am prepared

now with .Net, anything you can do with C#.Net or anyother .Net language, you can do with BV.Net. .Net is a big step from VB6, and it took a long time to make the change, but i feel it was for the better (unless you do stuff with the VB6 graphics, in .Net it sucks)

ive had vb6, its well worth the time to learn it. makes all other languages that follow the same style guidlines easier, and make it easier for you to get a leg up on proper coding and structuring and using/calling functions etc.

if you want the files your college should giev them to you free since yo u are in the class. mine gives operating systems as well for free. so hit them up. if they wont and you haev to have it. pm me ill hit my profs up for a copy and a spare key.

I've taken three semesters worth of VB.net. VB is a great language for beginners and is much more powerful than it once was. It's very easy and the IDE basically does most everything for you. Experienced programmers usually hate it for that reason.

I've also been programming in C since i was about 10 and C++ for a few years. They are both low-level languages and they are considerably harder than VB although they are both very powerful.
