Default CSS Problem

I made a small html file to see what would happen if I went ahead and gave two html elements the same id. I opened the file in Mozzila 1.7 and I got told "This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below."

My code is attached ('cause I can't get it to display) - what am I missing?

When I tried to open it in I.E. 6 I discovered, I.E. wont open a file with xhtml extension, but Nvu, the program I wanted to use saves files like this automatically - is this another case of I.E. flouting standards compliancy?

You need to use curly brackets { } instead of parentheses ( ).

In addition, just because you use XHTML to code, does not mean you use a ".xhtml" ending.

Thanks.. that was pretty dozy of me... but the .xhtml attachments are added automatically by Nvu... I suppose that's more an issue to take to the Nvu forums.

Having completed the test, both elements where controlled without problems. I'm guessing that id could actually be used in the same way as class, except that would violate the w3c specifications and be "illogical"?

Thanks again.
