Found this nifty little tool that's dead useful for designing your hero. Instead of having to be connected to the Cryptic studios, this stand-alone little tool allows you to design your hero's costume (including the aura and cape).

Unfortunately, it is only available in the Korean language. For anyone who has ever played CoH before will pretty much be able to guess what a lot of the tools are in the hero creator are, but I've found a page that will help you through it.

First of all, the link to the stand-alone application...

Once you download it and open it, a install window will pop-up. It isn't really that difficult to guess what buttons you need to click to install it as it pretty much follows the standard format. Click on the middle button (you need to "Accept" the terms, first) until the install is finished.

Once you have created your hero, it takes you to a special screen where you are able to take JPG snapshots of your hero doing the various emotes available in the game. The screenshots are saved in the Program Files:NC Soft:Screenshot folder. After that, it allows you to save your hero design for future reference. This is a great tool just to play around with, even if you don't have "City of Heroes"....(or, in the plural-less Korean society, "City of Hero").

It was originally designed for release with the U.S. version of CoH, but in the words of CuppaJo, "there was some, um, legal trouble" (read: Marvel lawsuit). Since the lawsuit has been settled, she is currently checking to getting it released here.

You are correct...just tried it and it came up in English.

To make sure that we have the instructions available, I did a cut-n-paste below. REMEMBER!!! If you are unfamiliar with RegEdit, please do not attempt this. You can cause some serious harm to your computer if you do not know what you are doing. Neither Uberw00t, anyone connected with this site, nor I will be responsible for any damage it may cause to your computer. You have been warned.

1) Click Start -> Run -> Type "Regedit" without the quotations and hit enter.

2) Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cryptic\KRCOH

3) Find the "Locale" setting in the right-hand pane, right-click and choose modify. Change the 3 to a 1.

4) Right-click on the KRCOH folder, this time in the left-hand pane, choose "Permissions" then highlight the username you normally log on as and check "Deny" for everything before clicking OK.

5) Close the registry editor and run the Character Creator again, if you got the right username it will now be completely in English.

tried installing it but got a "catastrophic failure". hopefully its because i was trying to install it while CoH was still open. we'll see tomorrow i guess.
