Are you planning on OCing? I would recommend going with and Nf2 board over a Kt board...

I have two Seagate SATA's 80 Gig models and love them, I cant even hear them

If you got the cash to blow on a 3200 more power to ya... I'm OCing my XP1700+ right now, its running at 2.11 GHZ, up from 1.4 GHz with a .1V bump on the Vcore...

DO NOT GET A NIVIDIA CARD!!! Nividia cards are barely running hl2 in benchmarks when the radeon 9600s are smokin them(the radeon 9800 make them look like ****)...I also agree with feral on gettin a nf2 board..you can get them real cheap and they perform like champs. Check out msi, abit, or asus if you want to spend a little more money for good nf2 boards. Also epox makes a good nf2 board.

get an AMD 2500+ Barton core and an nf2 mobo that supports 400 FSB and the OC your CPU to 200 and realize that you just got a Barton 3200+ for $85.

there was an article on how that test was a bit inaccurate somewhere. the new 50 drivers will fix all the problems. dont worry bout the nvidia cards, they will be just as good as ati's.

go with nvidia.

Ill second that! Im getting an Abit NF7-S. Two other good boards to look at are the Asus A7N8X Deluxe and the Epox 8RDA3+.

athlon xp 2500+ OC to the 3200+ specs
Abit NF7-3
1gb ddr pc 3200, GeIL or Corsair
Go with the reccomendeds dont know much about diffrent harddrives
Dont think you can mod the 9500s to 9700 anymore i belive ATI changed the memory so it cant do it, i would suggest a 9800 non pro and flash the bios to the 9800 pro specs

the Hl2 benches arnt the only ones that show that nvidia has lost/started to lose their sh!t, the new drivers could help, but as it stands go with ATI, far more bang for the buck

The nividia cards with det 50 drivers barely gained any fps..about 6 or so with the 5900 ultra...the radeon cards are much cheaper and perform a lot better. Which do you think is the better deal?

Eh? With Bold remarks like this one floating about this thread, I start to become very disturbed. Do your research pople. There are many avenues that Tech-heads have taken in order to prove that NVIDIA's cards will be no more than a bee's ballsack behind the ATI cards when running Half-Life, and proven it they have.
9600s and 9800s may outperform the FX series of NVIDIA when running HL2, but that is only 1 game (even if it may be the most awesome one). Besides, with the new 6800s outperforming the new X800s, why the hell wouldn't you choose an NVIDIA card. Come on people, stop being so narrow minded!

The fact remains, there isn't such a massive gap between the 9600s and the FX series, and anyway, In order to run HL2 on decent graphics settings with a relatively smooth framerate, I's feel more comfortable with a 6800 or X800 in my system, and when it comes to the crunch, the 6800 DOES outperform the X800 in almost all games, even though this may not be the case with HL2, besides, NVIDIA will no doubt solve or at least soften this problem with a revolutionary set of drivers or something, sometime in the future.

So please, stop trying to convince people that because ATI currently runs HL2 only slightly better, it makes it a far superior card. Because this is not the case.

And if you believe my $0.02 is bias, you believed wrong, as I am currently the proud owner of a 9600XT myself, yet I can still see the folly of my current GPU.

Besides, Nvidia cards run Doom3 better, so Nah Nah!

Im not much of a fanboi, but i lean towards ATI usually. Price/Performance wise ATI is usually better. nVidia has some faster cards, but they're more expensive. On the inverse, nVidia has much better drivers, while its well documented that ATIs are crap. Its a tossup really. I havn't done much research latley since nVidias never been able to come close to ATIs AIW cards.

EDIT: Oh, and even if ATI cards will run HL2 better, nVidia cards run D3 better now.
